Kate and I are moved into our new place - we're now unpacking. Life overall is about to get back to normal. June 1st I'm going back to work. I finally have the full stamina to last a full day at work and feel like myself again, even if I am still using a cane and am wearing a leg brace.
I had been in the middle of redoing my office before my injury last Summer and now that Smallville is over, I'm circling back to my original, favorite obsession - STAR WARS. I've got a brand new office that's ready for my shrine to come out. I spent the last few years putting my collecting on hold because money was tight. Now I'm working on filling in some holes in my collection. We had our movers put my second IKEA Detolf glass display case together. Plus I got another bookshelf that is perfect for displaying my lifesize Yoda - so I'm all set for getting things out again and putting new spins on how I'll display everything.
We're in a lull for STAR WARS stuff going on in the world. CW season 4 doesn't begin for a while, the Blu-Rays of the whole saga don't come out until Fall, and TPM in 3D won't be released until next year - soooo....things are cheap on ebay!
I'm going to have to grab some stuff that ended up in storage and is out in our garage (my collection boxes ended up all over the place after the move) and then I'm going to work on culling and focusing my collection. If you pulled out everything that I own, I have enough SW crap to make most grown men cry. I think there's really only one other girl who I know of who has a bigger collection than I do.
I want to focus my collection and shrink it. I'm thinking that probably 1/2 or 3/4ths of my new (post-1980s) 3 3/4" collection stuff will go. I'll keep anything vintage, anything really unusual things that I just love, and my favorite character figures. Anything that I really don't care about - I'm going to get rid of. I'll keep my figures that go with creatures (I love SW creatures - the Wompa, Tauntauns, Nexxu, Boga, etc) and a couple of ships (I have a full sized 3 3/4 scale Falcon that I just can't part with.) Otherwise stuff goes. Other than my few carded vintage figures, nearly everything is coming out of its packaging and I'm going to chuck boxes (except for breakables.) They take up storage space and over the years they've all gotten smashed.
Next will be going through all of the assorted "stuff." I used to hit thrift shops like mad and ended up w/ lots of duplicates of Burger King kid meal toys etc - I need to gather up 1 set of each collection and get rid of all duplicates. Pretty much anything that's not overly visually interesting can go as well - I have lots of random stuff that I picked up at Goodwill type places that I don't need.
What I love most - I love my 12" figures collection and my Gentle Giant Mini-busts. I love anything that's figural - so I love mugs that are shaped like Princess Leia's face or say banks that look like R2-D2. I like stuff that talks or squawks out the STAR WARS theme song or character dialog. I'd rather get rid of most of my extra 3 3/4" collection to make room for more Sideshow 12" figures.
I've decided to celebrate my love of all things collectible by starting up a new blog where I'm going to review collectibles and share photos of my collection. Also if I have any commentary or assorted SW news it'll go there too! Click on banner at top of the page to check it out!
What do you collect?
