Leaves of doubt on the tree of never ending solitude

I've been listening to a number of versions of All Along The Watchtower recently. For those of you who haven't heard it, which I assume is few, it's a Bob Dylan number from 1967. It's been covered by a multitude of artists. Notably Hendrix and U2. I've realy got to say that even though he wrote it Dylan's version is nowhere near as good as Hendrix's. Dylan's is off course very clean being mainly acoustic guitar and harmoica while the Hendrix version oozes the guitar legends skill on the electric guitar. It's noticable that nearly all the covers you find follow the electric approach and I think the greater energy and heavier sound suits it a lot more.

Interestinly though I prefer the Johnny Cash version of Hurt to the Nine Inch Nails one.

Still I think my next gig may well be Tunng + Tinariwen @ The Rainbow Warehouse
