Dan Roan of WGN Sports, doing the White Sox pre-game this afternoon, said "the White Sox send Javy Lopez to the mound today against Kenny Rogers for the Tigers."
My thoughts, immediately:
1) He's wrong.
2) When did Javy Lopez un-retire?
3) When did he join the Sox?
4) When (and how, so quickly) did he become a pitcher?
Lopez, of course, retired from the Atlanta Braves. He was a catcher. The explanation for Roan? He was meaning to speak of Javier "Javy" Vazquez.
Shades of Harry Caray, anyone? He used to refer (at times, anyway) to all of the players with names of a Latino flavor as "Chico." But at least he'd get the last names right (mostly). "Chico Gonzales, Chico Cabrera, and Chico Ramirez" were just some of his seeming favorites. But Harry was old - and soused a lot of the time. At least he had some excuses.
