One day....

I will get together with a computer programmer and together we will make some of the best organizational and personal goal oriented softwear the world has ever seen!!

And really? I'm only half joking with this.

For those of you who know me best, you know that I'm insanely goal orriented and determined to accomplish everything I can dream in my pretty little head one step at a time.  You also know that I'm a completely scatter brained, unorganized trainwreck.

Thankfully, there's the internet.  And technology to make a clueless little girl like me feel like superwoman some days.  And while I haven't quite found exactly what I'm looking for in any of these tools to feed all of my scatterbrained needs... I feel a strong desire to share my favorites, cause they've taught me what I need to keep track of my life.  And are probably mostly responsible for why I am where I am today.

www.43things.com/ -Although no longer active on the site, I'd feel ashamed to not pimp it out while talking about usefull tools.  43 things is a site about dreams and goals.  When you sign up you make a list of things that you want to accomplish and as you work on each goal you're able to blog about your progress and talk about how you did it once you're done.  It doesn't sound like much, but looking at a list of your priorites frequently (say once a week or so) really can keep you on track for what you're working towards (as well as point out to you goals you had that aren't as important as you once thought they were).  A great site to find yourself on.  My very favorite.  No joke!  One day, I'll become active again.   With such a frienldy and encouraging community and so many great ideas of things to do on the site, it's an invaluable tool for any one and everyone.  Actually, while writing this I decided it's time for a fresh start.  You can find my new 43Things site here: www.43things.com/person/ShortyRiz

www.simpleology.com/
- admittedly out of all my organizational tools, this one comes off the most complex right away.  First of all they will try to sell you things....  But really, don't buy them.  I haven't and I still love the program.  Basically what simpleology teaches you is how to figure out what you want, focus on it and spend about 10 minutes each day planning your day and what you hope to accopmlish while keeping your focus in mind.  It's all about breaking your big goals into smaller goals into little tasks that you can check off one by one till you're right where you want to be.  Really fantastic and great softwear to back it up.... especially if you have no real desire to bring your task list with you. :P  Seriously though, a great tool to help make the impossible possible.

www.flylady.net/ - The sites a bit disorganized and the lingo takes awhile to get used to, but if you find house work a bit intimidating then flylady is completely where it's at.  They'll send you 10 emails a day, but they're all really helpful reminders to keep those of us less relunctant to move forward happily.  That and I love her motto: You can do anything for 15 minutes!  And it's really amazing how much you can accomplish in that amount of time.

www.studyminder.com/ - Great for students, but I ended up finding flawed and used it less and less.  I tried both the free and paid for versions and I like the free one better though I feel like the paid one is probably better I was just used to the free one and missed some key features.  If you're a procastonater at school, this tool is invaluable to keep you on top of your studdies by telling you just how much you need to be doing now to not get hit hard in the future.

I know I like to post blogs where I make lists of my favorites (restaurants, sites, make-up products, etc.) but if you read through this one and check out just one of them that appeals to you, I promise you that it will provide useful.

Oh and some other day, I'm posting my dream technology that I would make.  It's a lot like the simplelology tools but is pda/smart phone compatible and would come with simply fantastic calandar features.  Yep, that's right. I think about this often.

Back to being productive,
Carissa Neuharth
