Is this Gentrification?

Well our neighborhood is all grown up and has had its very own drive by shooting. We got a nice letter from the Chief of Police explaining that a Policeman heard the shots and saw a dark car speeding away from the scene, but was too busy writing a traffic ticket to give chase. Revenue enhancement, it seems, is a priority in PG county. I tell myself that because the alternative (Late night shooting being too common to investigate immediately) is just too annoying to contemplate. We are supposed to be comforted that the police feel the killings were not random and the victims knew their assailants. Move along, nothing to see here.

At approximately 2:05 AM a Mount Rainier officer was out on a traffic
stop in the area of 37th St. and Rhode Island Avenue when he heard
the sound of several shots that appeared to come from the area of
37th & Quincy Streets in Brentwood. Shortly after he heard the
shots, he saw a dark colored car cross Rhode Island Ave from 38th
Street at a very high rate of speed. Because of his presence on the
traffic stop he was unable to pursue the dark colored vehicle. The
officer finished with the traffic violator and responded immediately
to the area of 37th and Quincy where he discovered two individuals
inside a car who had been shot, apparently several times. The
officer summoned fire/rescue personnel who transported both victims
to Prince George's Hospital where they were both pronounced dead.
Prince George's County Police homicide detectives and evidence
collection technicians were called to the scene to assume control of
the investigation. The victim have been identified as Demetrius
Kosh of Landover and Benard brooks of Mount Rainier.
