I actually have today off. Go figure. And since our pay-weeks end on Tuesdays, it's also a start of a new week so I can't offer to work to make up for Monday and Tuesday. So is life. Roads iced over again last night b/c apparently people don't understand you have to clear the shit OFF the road. You just don't let it melt and leave it there. You clear it off, you lay down some sort of ice-melt, rock salt, ice cream salt, sand or kitty litter, and then we it does ice over again at least it's with less ice. Seriously, it's not like CLT doesn't get hit by an ice storm every single year.
On that note: Holy Shit, New England is getting hit. I'm glad I'm not in Quincy right now. The weather channel has a guy, with his coffee, hiking through the Boston Common on snow shoes. Dunkies will not be denied. Dear people from Charlotte,
this is a blizzard and YET their mass transit is still running. Delayed. But still running. To be fair, at least it's still not as bad as ATL.
And: Holy Shit, Jesus, Mary and Joseph:
People from Australia, stay safe! Anyway, let's move on to fandom things!
Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen are coming back for The Hobbit film(s). I am happy about this, but I still want to know if Hugo Weaving is coming back (the maps and Rivendell are like, my favorite part of the book, okay?) and who the HELL is playing Thranduil. It's a pretty important role. I really have got to finish A Journey Begins before the film(s) are released.
The next major part of the
Modern AU is posted.
Speaking of the Modern AU, Dierks Bentley, the mainstream pop country musician of my heart, released a video for "Draw Me A Map" my favorite song off his new album Up On the Ridge.

This song is pretty much my Hillbilly/Haldane theme song for the Modern AU. I'm so happy Dierks/his record company decided to release it as a single. Maybe he'll finally get some crossover success. It really is one of the best tracks on the album. That could be b/c the goddess that is Alison Krauss does the harmony vocal. Who knows, either way, one of my favorite Dierks Bentley songs and considering my love for him and all his albums, that's saying a lot.
Justified is coming back! I am sad for the lack of Tim and Rachel in the preview, but I'll deal. Also, ugh, Blue Bloods is moving to Wed. at 10 and Justified is on Wed at 10. Choices, chocies, thank god for DVR. And can I just say how much I love the music used in this show. I will forever love it for introducing me to the band
Gangstagrass. I would never think that bluegrass and rap would go so well together.
I'm thinking about doing a mostly meta-post in defense of The Pacific and why it's not fair to expect it to be Band of Brothers Pt. II, but I'm trying to sort my thoughts out. As I've said before, I completely get why people can't get into it. It's brutal and a different form of narrative than what we've seen in the hbo mini-series. What I can't stand is all the sites like imdb and tv.com that rate a program like Sex in the City with more value than The Pacific. EDIT: Yeah, already started this. But first I think a character chart is needed, so I'm undertaking a massive screencapping project. Really, I just keep stopping on Team Basilone at the Basilone home. God, I love that scene so much. And the Sledge household. I love comparing these two homes and the set decorators get all my love.
Finally, I watched The Town last night. It made me homesick for the greater Boston area, and Blake Lively's character was pretty much every girl I knew who grew up in Southie/Quincy. Other than that, not really impressed. I've seen Ben Affleck do better both acting and directing wise. I can't believe they actually got Harvard Square closed off long enough to shoot there. That place is pretty much always a madhouse.
Okay, ending this very random post. I've got some writing to do. Currently rewatching Gen Kill to get Q-Tip's speech patterns down. He's Lip's first wave of security/front desk worker in the Ridic AU.
