Haiti

If you haven't heard by now, Haiti's been hit by a 7.0 Earthquake with two powerful aftershocks resulting in mass destruction to a country that was already in the recovery period from two powerful hurricanes in 2008 and a slew of natural disasters and political unrest. Haiti is one of the poorest countries of the world and is the poorest in the western hemisphere with very high poverty and, needless to say, the most recent destruction is putting a country already in need of aid beyond a state-of-emergency. Not even talking about damage in terms of infrastructure, the death toll is feared to be up to 100,000.

If you're wondering how you can help, donate, etc. CNN has a list of charities and relief organizations here. If you like a little fandom with your donations, you can visit help_haiti and bid on the various fandom offers there.

There are also, of course, your local charities and organizations and as they days go on, I am sure more will appear.

Times are hard now and money is tight with everyone, so if you can't donate money now, keep watch of any local fundraisers which will be collecting canned foods, clothing, blankets etc in your area. In situations like this, every little bit helps. Yes, even an amount as small as $5. If you can't offer money or goods and still want to help, check to see if any of the local orgs. need help with volunteers, sorting of goods etc.
