Pride and Prejudice and Falling into Regency Engalnd

So I just watched Lost in Austen and adored it. Just loved it, loved it, loved it.

Look, the story is basically what would happen if every self-insert story/falling into Regency England/Middle Earth/Firefly/The Starship Enterprise story every happened. Just, this time, the character switches places with Elizabeth Bennet. Shit would change. Big time. It was clever and cute, and I have no hard time believing Elizabeth Bennet would kick ass and have a quick adaptation to our time. One of the things that cracked me up is when Amanda Price, the lead character, finds herself stuck in Lizzie's bedroom and pulls out her cellphone to try and get a signal. Cracked me the fuck up. Also, the toothbrushing scene because really, these are things I don't think people ponder when they drop a modern character into a different time period. I also give kudos to the writers for showing us that characters are not always what they seem. I love what they did with Wickham. I actually don't hate him in this version. Same with Lady Catherine. Alex Kingston as Mrs. Bennet was just awesome. If you are an Austen fan, I would suggest renting the dvd and watching it. There's even a shout-out to the Colin Firth version of "Pride and Prejudice."

My desire for het romance with writing that doesn't make me cringe is forcing me to pull out every romance book I own and brought with me to Quincy. It's not turning out well. These are books I love, but I just can't get into the stories and tend to yell something like, "stop whining and grow a set!" at the characters. I am such a restless reader right now. Therefore I am just going to sit back and write as it will occupy my mind and tends to lead me to the most interesting places.
