Pointless McPointy

I have spent the Easter weekend doing pretty much nothing. Cleaning the apartment for my mother's visit. Slapping myself for having so many double copies of so many different books. (In my defense, they are often different editions with different covers and I seriously need to make a card catalog to keep track of all my books.) Dusting shelves. Fussing over knick-knacks. Mulling over papers. Watching A&E and History Channel programs off Netflix Instant. All and all, a good weekend.

Quick movie review time:

So, Changeling and Milk made me cry my eyes out, for different reasons, but both were very good movies and I highly rec them. I've wanted to see Milk for ages, esp. since the whole twinkie defense thing has been an interest of mine since the "American Justice" episode of the murder first aired, years ago, when I was a wee lass. Sean Penn acted his ass off, to the point I didn't even think, "Okay, that's Sean Penn." Amazing movie, you will need tissues and possibly something to throw at the wall in rage. Go watch it now if you haven't yet.

Changeling was scary, since it's based off true events and WTF police force? I'm bound to watch anything with Angelina Jolie in it, but she also acted her ass off in this film. It was wonderfully directed and the shooting was beautiful and omg, Clint Eastwood I love you for many reasons but also for your desire to achieve somewhat historical accuracy. Good movie, will make you cry, recommended.

Dead Like Me: Watch the movie if you love the show. Other than that, no Rube (which we knew going in), new Daisy sucks, no Kiffany, ::boom:: Der Waffle House. George, Roxie, and Mason still kick ass. Did feel like an extended episode, so I guess that's good, but after waiting so long I wanted something more. Still, there was Delores, and Crystal, and evenutal post-its. Good for the fans, but for people who have never watched the show, I don't think they will get it.

I either have to re-vise the teaching section of my Capstone now or start writing my Europe 1900-1945 term-paper. On one side I will be discussing the politics of race relations between Irish-Americans and African-Americans in Boston, on the other I will be discussing the role of women during Fascist Italy and dealing with patriarchy. Either way, good times.
