signal boosting on fandom and a SPN S6 question

Sep 22, 2013 20:48

Laura Shapiro explains that Jay Smooth and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are making a documentary about remix, and seeking video submissions--vidders should consider participating!

Also, the OTW is seeking stories from fans who’ve received DMCA notices, or who’ve heard mention of the so-called “right of publicity” and its relation to RPF.

three years on and still wondering... )

I don't remember any explanations, just being infuriated that the writers had Samuel turn on Sam and Dean, because I instinctively felt, from what we saw of him in the 70s, that loyalty and family were just as much Campbell things as Winchester things.

For the rest... Didn't Ruby1 say that the vast majority of Mary's family died suddenly/suspiciously? I was more surprised that any of them were even alive, to be honest, but am willing to handwave that possibly they're the kids of murdered cousins etc. I assume that John took off pretty fast, before anyone could react. He didn't seem to know any of Mary's family apart from her parents so wouldn't have known who to contact, and it might have taken a while for word to get to them.

Yeah, I think it's very plausible that John would never have been in contact (for certain specialized values of "plausible"). It's just very sad to think about, right, that there was this whole structure out there that they could've had but were estranged from.
