Recovery phase

Having reached the end of this work-sprint, I spent a bit of time bent over by the side of the path, hyperventilating and wondering if I was going to hurl. Apparently not. The 10 hours of kiwiburn meeting was actually a pretty good cool-down lap, and I suspect that I'll feel better for having done that than I would have for stopping cold and spending the weekend at home in my jammies.

I was in bed (in a backpackers on Ponsonby road in Auckland) before 11 both nights this weekend. I've now caught my breath and reached the point of looking around and wondering what next. I'm shaking the proverbial trees trying to flush out all the stuff I've ignored and/or forgotten already this year, so that I can get it on to my to-do list and prioritise it. There's a lot of it, and it's a bitsy collection of stuff that will make my life feel more lived-in rather than a collection drive-by experiences and 80% completed projects. Finish the last bit of painting and scraping, call my mother, have the guy fix the chimney so the rain doesn't fall in, clean out the fridge and pantry, sweep the leaves from the patio, move the firewood under the house, firm up plans for hiking the Queen Charlotte track next month, clean out my closet, polish my shoes etc.

Even though I came back from this meeting totally enthused about Kiwiburn, I'm still stepping back from my Kiwiburn responsibilities to make space for other stuff. I'm not sure yet what the other stuff is. Hopefully a portion of it is staying in with friends, sharing delicious meals and good conversation. Having my head up and looking around more than it's pressed against the grindstone. Some of it will be new and different stuff, just on principle. I'm committed to more of it being fun.
