The infirmity in Terra Nova was almost empty. Skye walked in to see her mother. Deborah was being treated for sincyllic fever, the disease that had killed her husband.
“I’m so sorry, Mother,” Skye whispered. “I wanted to keep you safe and I made a mess of it.” She sat on the edge of her mother’s bed.
Deborah slowly sat up and reached out to her daughter, “You tried Bucket. That’s what matters. She hugged Skye and ran her fingers through her long wild hair. “You did the best you could.”
Skye hugged her mother back. “Next time, I’ll ask for help.”
“A good idea,” as Deborah relaxed and settled into the bed. “I’ll see you later Bucket.”
“Later Mom.”
