Weekend update

Mom and I had been planning to attend the annual strawberry festival at one of the local historical houses in the area yesterday, but with no guarantee of shade in 90 degree weather, we decided to do lunch and window shop for furniture.

J and I are in agreement with the type of furniture we like: No leather, no loose pillows, easy to keep clean, and a neutral color so we can change the look of the room with paint and accessories instead of investing in new furniture.

I found a seven piece set that included a Lazy Boy reclining sofa and love seat, a coffee tables, and two end tables that were a near match for with the wood flooring inlaid with slate. The best part? 50% off. Of course the woman who carries her camera everywhere forgot it. Fortunately, there was a picture on-line and J and I could debate the pros and cons over the phone.

Needless to say, we made our saleswoman very happy. We went with the sofa and the love seat, but J thought the wood on the table had a bit too much of an orange tint. I'm willing to defer to her on the intricacies of the color palette. Until her husband passed away, she matted and framed pictures for 15 years. We found a similar end and coffee table set, also with a slate tops with a wood that we both agreed worked much better. She also found a replacement for her current 20 year old Lazy Boy recliner. And if that wasn't enough to make me happy, she insisted on buying a floor lamp that I'd decided I was going to save up for.

J was trying to distract me from my first Father's Day without Dad, of course, not that he was going to let himself be forgotten. My mom's answering machine still has his outgoing message on it. I managed not to break down until after I'd hung up the phone when I called to let her know how things went.

Mom was out doing the same thing with my brother, she just *had* to get a new back door before we go on vacation next month.

Lots to look forward to, and the summer is sure to fly even faster than usual with everything on the family and friends' plate. It just makes my Bascon and San Francisco trip come that much sooner. :fist pump:

the house, rl
