I know I'm posting these a bit later than usual & I'm sorry, but ah, here they are!
& before we hop into this week's recaps, I want to take this moment to pimp this totally fab Jamie/Victoria mix that the ever-lovely
nentari recently posted:
Hero and Heroine. Go & procure it

. . . well, he lived through the battle at least.
That's my favourite moment in the whole audio - Two taught Jamie how to play table tennis, but the moment the boy became good at it (and, I believe, good enough to beat him) the Doctor lost interest in the game. :P Oh, Two.
Wasn't it just adorable? It was so Two/Jamie! ::grins:: & I love his yo-yo.
(& hmm, Six had a yo-yo in his pocket in The Two Doctors . . . :P)
& AH, THANKYOU FOR EXPLAINING THE END TO ME! I REALLY didn't get it at all - yes, I'm stupid, I know.
but while we were to believe that the ambassador was the sole responsible, Mindy operating in the background was meant to be a surprising end twist (I suspected it all along, though).
I'd only heard part of this audio, AGES ago - like the first half-hour, maybe? & I'd already called Mindy as the dangerous one.
Mindy escapes, promising she'll come back some day to get even, and Jamie finds himself in the middle of ruins, his memory gone again, and with absolutely no idea of what he's doing here.
But if that wasn't bad enough, Jamie's final words seem to imply that he doesn't remember anything about the Doctor - no, not even The Highlanders. This in my mind is possibly the biggest continuity error ever, since Jamie was meant to remember that story. Or it could signify that Mindy caused even more damage to his memory than the Time Lords, but that would be even more tragic.
::begins to cry:: No . . . I don't want that to be! I - that's just WRONG. & too depressing to even think about!
Okay, I can see why you didn't much like this audio - it was good until the very last half, that's all I can say for it.
& DAMMIT, WAY TO MAKE IT SO CONFUSING WITH HIS MEMORY BLOCK BEING HALF-BROKEN, THEN HALF-RESTORED, WRITERS! Seriously - that IS confusing. & I WAS listening to the whole thing.
(& I wanted to get my recaps up before morning, so I haven't listened to Frazer's interview yet! But I will tomorrow - today - TONIGHT, anyway. I'm dying to hear it! :D)

Well, Four used to play with a yo-yo all the time. *big shippy grin*
Fourteen will have one as well, but it will be red and painted to look like a ladybug so it's definitely not the same - but maybe Jamie gave her this one as well. *ponders*
(Which reminds me - you never did comment on Fourteen's musical instrument of choice and the way she obtained it.)

I always found it odd that she was always around when something fishy was going on - and how conveniently she had followed Jamie when he went to explore the ambassador's quarters.

I don't have much of a problem with the last half, and I like the audio in general - it's just those final words that bug me to no end. In my mind, Fear of the Daleks and The Great Space Elevator are canon, but Helicon Prime is AU - a wonderful AU, since it has Two and Jamie being domestic and shippy and adorable, and Frazer doing a stunning job channeling Pat, but AU nevertheless.

I can see it, actually. The shock shook the memory block temporarily, but it slowly repaired itself. I just don't like the idea of it being restored. At all.

Oh, it's lovely - especially Frazer's closing words - not there's an ending I like. :P

You know, I do wonder how Four & Jamie would have got on. (yes, I may have READ this, but ah, I still wonder!)

Ooo, what a pretty yo-yo! :D

ACK! I'm a thick specimen, aren't I? I love her kazoo - it makes me think a little of Four's recorder, but it's even more compact! & a kazoo seems rather fitting for her, I think - it's cute & compact, like she is! :P
I always found it odd that she was always around when something fishy was going on - and how conveniently she had followed Jamie when he went to explore the ambassador's quarters.
I was pretty suspicious of her as soon as she started asking Jamie what he was looking for in the ambassador's quarters - right when my iPod DIED, so I couldn't hear anymore! :O But needless to say, I had ideas about her - & I was still kind of shocked that I was right.

Yes & yes. I hope his next audio isn't quite as . . . well, hit & miss on continuity as the end of this was.

After a bit of sleep, it DOES make sense now, but yes, it's upsetting that he still had it, even after he could remember some things about him & the Doctor together.
Oh, it's lovely - especially Frazer's closing words - not there's an ending I like. :P
& that's next on my list to hear! ::twinkles::

I have the feeling Jamie would probably have gotten along with almost all the Doctors. Granted, he probably wouldn't be as close to all of them as he is to Two and Fourteen (whom I feel has a few things more in common with Two, personality-wise, than with any of the other incarnations), but I'm sure Four would be high on the list of those he'd get along with. After all, he got along with the more irascible Six pretty well.
Ooo, what a pretty yo-yo! :D
I bought one such yo-yo to alouzon some time ago, and she insisted that it was the sort of thing Fourteen would have (she suggested the kazoo as well, along with some other things that I feel make her a co-creator and co-writer of the Chronicles by her own right). I never saw any other yo-yos like that in that store, which I'm now sorry as I wanted one for myself. But I'll keep on looking!

*grins* She is cute and compact, isn't she? And I wish I was able to see the Short Doctors Club jamming away in their instruments of choice - recorder, kazoo and spoons seem like a strange (yet groovy) combination. :P
(And the funny thing is, after I inserted the kazoo into the story, I read an EDA in which Eight played one. :P)

We shall have to wait and see...

I've re-listened to it last night. Oh, Frazer. *tickles him*

This would be a fair assumption, I think. But what about Ten? ::bites lip:: (YES, I HAVE TO ASK. I'M SORRY.)

Yes she is! ::carries her around for a laugh:: & wait, who played the spoons?!
(hee, now I'm imagining the three of them playing on a street corner & people tossing money into one of Two's hats.)
& OMG. EIGHT PLAYED A KAZOO ONCE? DUDE, YOU WERE . . . well, I can't think of the word, but you were doing it, whatever it is! :D)
We shall have to wait and see...
I hope it's out by now - I really want to hear it!

& I listened to it last night. SO MUCH LOVE, OMG. :D :D :D

He'd probably react to Ten the same way Sarah Jane did. She wasn't too disappointed, was she? And he now knows about Donna and might be more willing to give Ten the benefit of the doubt, having witnessed Fourteen's guilty feelings about the subject.
& wait, who played the spoons?!
That would be Seven, the third and final member of the Short Doctors Club.
(hee, now I'm imagining the three of them playing on a street corner & people tossing money into one of Two's hats.)
I've always pictured them playing next to a sign saying: "The Short Doctors Club. Highlanders and Aces allowed." And, of course, with a handwritten note added by a certain someone underneath: "Tall, big-nosed fancipants need not apply." :P

Yeah, I was surprised when I read that too. I don't remember in which EDA it happens, but I think it's a pre-Fitz story.

UPSIDE-DOWN KILTS! SHUTTLECOCKS! :P

Well . . . okay then. :D But I'm still ready to take a baseball bat to Ten's ribs, of course.

If I could draw, I'd TOTALLY draw that for you! I love it! ^___^

Aww, Fitz misses the kazoo? I wonder if he & Eight could have played a sort of duet together if he hadn't. :D

IT WAS ALL SO JOYFUL! I want to relisten to it, actually! ::draws hearts::

Maybe they did play between chapters, when the readers weren't looking. As far as I know, Eight still had the kazoo when I stopped reading the EDAs.

I told you it would be. After all, Frazer is Frazer.
And now, grab your Mind Robber DVD and go watch Highlander, young lady. ;)

Ace will be glad to lend you one, I'm sure.

I want one for Fourteen and Jamie. I wonder how bagpipes and kazoo will sound together...
(And now I've remembered there's a M*A*S*H episode where BJ plays a kazoo! It's from season 6 and it's called The Smell of Music.)

Of course he is - he's FRAZER.

If you write it, I'll write Two, Jamie & Zoe's jam session in 1960s Greenwich Village. :D

I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT THAT EPISODE TODAY. & I'd forgot he plays a kazoo in it! Goodness me, you're SURROUNDED by kazoos, aren't you? :D
Of course he is - he's FRAZER.
Perfectly put! ::twinkles::
& I SHALL go to bed in a bit - AFTER I finish the Eight/Fitz I'm reading. Which, at one point, had Fitz in nothing but an apron & helping Eight make some kind of vegetarian dish. YES PLEASE.
& did I mention that Eight wears his hair in a black ribbon at one point & has his half-moon reading glasses on? IN THE TARDIS LIBRARY? ::dies:: THAT IS HOT, Y/N?

Oh, I'm sure I'll be able to insert it in the middle of a fic. *nods*

It looks like it - and I've never even played one in my life!
And since you were thinking about it the other day:
And while I'm at it, have a bonus cap from Exorcism:

That sounds rather interesting, actually. *grins* And where was their companion while this was going on? :P

it is, actually.
And have I ever told you that in a couple of EDAs Eight grows a Masterish beard? Anji thinks it looks rubbish, but I'm having second thoughts...

O, it was. & well, you know, the usual - looking at Fitz's backside on occasion, admiring Eight's veggie-chopping skills, looking at Fitz's backside a bit more obviously . . . things like that. :P
it is, actually.
If he removed the glasses . . . he'd look even MORE Byron-esque, I think! ::swoons:: O, how splendid this would be to see!

Um, no, you didn't - OMG! Velvet AND a Master-esque beard?! O my giddy aunt . . . Anji hasn't much taste, methinks. :P

Well, there was also the fact that he was running a bordello in Regency England and got engaged to a 14-year-old prostitute. I'm sure Anji took that into consideration when she criticized Eight.

Couldn't have put it in a better way. :D

I - I - I - I - O MY GIDDY AUNT! ::takes a few deep breaths:: HE WAS RUNNING A BORDELLO?! & HE WAS ENGAGED TO A REGENCY-ERA HOOKER?! AT FOURTEEN?!
Wait, did he not have his memory AGAIN? I'll be a little disappointed if that's the case . . . but WHATEVER, BORDELLO MASTER & ENGAGED TO A FOURTEEN YEAR-OLD PROSTITUTE!
THAT SETTLES IT. HE IS SO THE TIME LORD EDITION OF LORD BYRON. Or at least his eighth regeneration is.
& um, WHERE WAS FITZ DURING ALL THIS? if he was enjoying favours from bordello girls, I'll whack him, then them! ::gets out a baseball bat::

He was still the same amnesiac Doctor Anji met. The deal was, he was dying (in fact, his second heart was becoming rotten) as a result of the EDA version of the destruction of Gallifrey. The only way he could susvive was to link himself to Earth by marriage, and the girl was to be his bride in representation of Earth. As for the rest of the bordello, each of the hookers had a special supernatural power (I remember that one could read the future and another could summon spirits while in a tantric trance), so they joined forces with him in an attempt to help Earth and to save his life.
Yes, it's a very strange book. And it was written in the style of a history book instead of a novel, which makes it even weirder.
