Well, everyone, here we are in the final official original three serials of the great & mighty Troughton rewatch-athon! Next week will be entirely devoted to the final serial of Two, Jamie & Zoe's - The War Games. I'll have it up on early Saturday morning, as usual, but I'll hopefully watching two serials a day, recapping each one in its own

An understandable confusion. Damn the writers for recycling names!
& HE WINS! ::tackleglomps Jamie:: He won & the other fellow didn't last five minutes! IN YOUR FACES!
And the other guy was armed, which adds some more extra pwnage points!
Random fashion note two: Does anyone have an idea of what material Zoe's jacket & skirt are made out of? I'd say maybe something in PVC, but it doesn't look quite as shiny as PVC does. Maybe a leather of some sort?
That's the outfit that's said to be made of paper and which kept tearing off at the most unpleasant moments.
O yes, Doctor. Leave the perfect little brainchild in a room full of computers & knowledge. ::looks a bit sad::
Yes, it's like leaving a little kid alone in a sweetshop. *shakes head* Things would have been much better if he had left Zoe tending to Vana and taken Jamie with him.
Zoe's face is kind of creeping me out - she looks like someone drugged her.
Considering what they say afterwards about how the Krotons let them know if they're pleased, I have the feeling she was kind of being drugged.
Due to a vid I quite adore, I can NEVER, EVER look at his face at that moment without thinking rather . . . cheeky thoughts.
*grins* I have the feeling I know just what vid you're talking about... ;D
TWO, DON'T EAT ALIEN PRIMORDIAL SOUPS! ::slaps::
Okay, that comment of yours should be iconized. :P
O, o, Jamie, OF COURSE they won't leave without you - they've only gone to conduct tests! Please, don't think Two would ever leave you behind! You know he wouldn't.
That moment right there breaks my heart. :(
LOLZ, I LOVELOVELOVE TWO'S REACTION TO ZOE'S REQUEST FOR HIS BRACES!
Yes, he's just so indignant about it! NOT MAH BRACES, BITCH! *loves*
Random fashion note: I LOVE Miss Kelly's hair!
In the comments they state that that's Louise Pajo's real hair, which made me squee with surprise - having known her for years from an Australian drama set in the 1920s, I'm used to seeing her with a bob.
I love how this is being shot so far - you're not SEEING what everyone's looking at or talking to, but it still remains quite creepy, or at the very least, unsettling!
Yes, I think it was a great call shooting those scenes from the point of view of the yet-to-be-revealed monster. It gives a bit more tension and athmosphere to it all.
Random fashion note three: JAMIE'S SHIRT. IT . . . IT HAS LACES! ::FLAILS:: GUH. HE LOOKS MIGHTY FINE IN THAT SHIRT, SERIOUSLY.
And Frazer says he still owns that shirt and it still fits, which I wouldn't mind seeing.
Random fashion note four: JAMIE'S GOT LACES ON HIS SLEEVES! ::squeaks:: & DAMN, it really . . . fits him, I must say. ::stares::
I told you - those sleeves are my favourite part of the whole shirt, and I love looking at those laces. *dreamy smile*
Fashion note number five: Zoe appears to have changed her outfit between serials. WITH LACES ON!
Yes, that's the yellow leather outfit Wendy says was her favourite of all of Zoe's clothes - and the one she took home with her after it was over. Curiously, the same thing seems to be said about Frazer and the shirt, as proven above, which shows our kids have some good taste when it comes to laces.

YES! & KROTON'S FAR MORE AWESOME THAN THE KROTONS, Y/N?
And the other guy was armed, which adds some more extra pwnage points!
& he never once acted cocky or macho about it! He was just like, 'Bring it on then.' GOLD STARS FOR JAMIE.
That's the outfit that's said to be made of paper and which kept tearing off at the most unpleasant moments.
NO. I thought that was her dress in The Dominators! This one looked great! But it did vaguely make me think of rubbish bags designed into an outfit. But she looked GREAT in it! (though if it was made of paper . . . maybe that explains Padders & her reaction at the end of The Invasion commentary. :P)
Yes, it's like leaving a little kid alone in a sweetshop. *shakes head* Things would have been much better if he had left Zoe tending to Vana and taken Jamie with him.
INDEED. At least Jamie wouldn't have wandered off & found himself in so much trouble! & that too, could have been interesting to see - Jamie in the hall of learning, not Zoe.
Considering what they say afterwards about how the Krotons let them know if they're pleased, I have the feeling she was kind of being drugged.
Actually, if you think about the nature of how the tests are administrated, that would make a lot of sense. I would think they'd do it by way of chemicals, or subliminal messages at the end of the tests. Which, as a side note, is very much like River in Serenity - when she saw a certain television advert which contained specially coded subliminal messages for her, her own training kicked in.
*grins* I have the feeling I know just what vid you're talking about... ;D
& you'd be absolutely right! ::eyes twinkle:: He DOES look rather . . . naughty at that moment. :P
Okay, that comment of yours should be iconized. :P
::giggleblush:: WELL IT'S TRUE! HE WOULD HAVE SAID THAT TO JAMIE. :P
That moment right there breaks my heart. :(
Mine too, from the very first time I saw it. The poor darling - Two would never abandon him like that!
Yes, he's just so indignant about it! NOT MAH BRACES, BITCH! *loves*
ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MOMENTS OF THE WHOLE STORY. :D O, Two, you're so cute when you're bothered!
In the comments they state that that's Louise Pajo's real hair, which made me squee with surprise - having known her for years from an Australian drama set in the 1920s, I'm used to seeing her with a bob.
She's got fab hair then! I'd LOVE to find a hair accessory like the one she wore - it looked great.
Yes, I think it was a great call shooting those scenes from the point of view of the yet-to-be-revealed monster. It gives a bit more tension and athmosphere to it all.
Yes indeed! Especially if you're JUST seeing it without any knowledge of the Ice Warriors beforehand. Spoooky!
And Frazer says he still owns that shirt and it still fits, which I wouldn't mind seeing.
O my! ::glee:: I'd not mind seeing that either! :D
I told you - those sleeves are my favourite part of the whole shirt, and I love looking at those laces. *dreamy smile*
They were rather hypnotising to watch, I have to say. All that swaying & flopping & moving . . .

It was a very nice outfit & she did look lovely in it. ::nods:: & once again, I agree completely! :D

DEFINITELY Y!
NO. I thought that was her dress in The Dominators!
No, that one was made of curtains. This is the paper one. I'm now rewatching The Seeds of Death with the audio commentaries on, and Wendy says it's PVC paper, and the skirt was always tearing up.
Speaking of the audio commentaries for that serial, two notes:
a) The first time you listen to it, it's advisable that you set the commentary subtitles. I don't know if it happens in the US version, but in the British edition Frazer and Terrance Dicks crack jokes at certain points that use some rather steamy language, and those lines were censored so that you end up hearing a weird silence instead; however, the subtitles have what they did say.
b) At some point, Terrance pokes fun of Frazer describing a scene he witnessed in an American con where this serial was shown, in which Frazer was watching it with a beer in his hand and a gaggle of adoring fangirls all around him. Frazer was relishing at all the attention, pointing at the screen and going "Now watch this bit. I'm awesome in this bit! *pauses* See? And I'm EVEN BETTER in the next bit!"

Yes. *pets* I know he's aware of it, deep inside, but at that moment it's impossible to make sure, no matter how strong his faith on the Doctor.
Yes indeed! Especially if you're JUST seeing it without any knowledge of the Ice Warriors beforehand. Spoooky!
As far as I know, the special effects used to show the way an Ice Warrior kills are different from those in their previous serial, which I think would add to the viewers not being sure of what the menace was.
They were rather hypnotising to watch, I have to say. All that swaying & flopping & moving . . .
Frazer acts with his hands a lot, and with this shirt such a thing is a joy to behold. :D

FTW! ::hugs Kroton:: I want an excuse to use his tag more often!

Hmm, I've never heard of something like PVC paper, so I was half-right when I said it was PVC. :P But I didn't note a tear anywhere - just her looking all fab in it! :D
& thankyou for the notes on the commentaries! I'll pop the subtitles on when I listen to it. :D

OMG. ::giggles madly:: SO. CUTE!
Yes, that would make sense.
One idea is that those headsets would interfere with the dopamine receptors in the brain, pumping them into overdrive, which, actually COULD be used in conjunction with subliminal messaging after the test. (that is, if I remember my chemistry of the brain right in regards to the dopamine.)
Yes. *pets* I know he's aware of it, deep inside, but at that moment it's impossible to make sure, no matter how strong his faith on the Doctor.
Exactly. He was so panicked & so much was happening around him . . . I don't blame him for assuming the worst just then. But nevertheless, I wanted to cuddle him & reassure him that he'd never be left behind, EVER.

O! Not having SEEN their first serial, I wouldn't know, but that's DEFINITELY another layer of AWESOME for this serial.

YES TIMES A THOUSAND.

Any excuse for that is a good excuse.

I hadn't either, but you know what they say - you live and learn. :D
OMG. ::giggles madly:: SO. CUTE!
And so very Frazer, wouldn't you agree? :P

You are teh smarts. :D

Absolutely. With everything just whirlpooling around you, it's logical to expect even worst things to happen.

I haven't seen it either (I need to download the surviving episodes off that YouTube-like site STAT), so all I have from this issue is from hearsay - but from my recollection of hearing the audios I think their attacks had a different sound to it, anyway.

AGREED! :D
I hadn't either, but you know what they say - you live and learn. :D
Most true! I wonder if they still make it . . . hmm!
And so very Frazer, wouldn't you agree? :P
TOTALLY! ::sparkles::
You are teh smarts. :D
::blushes shyly:: Thankyou! More than a pair of black tights & a cute miniskirt to this girl! :P & I have my Liz Shaw moments on occasion. ;)
Absolutely. With everything just whirlpooling around you, it's logical to expect even worst things to happen.
Definitely. He looks SO crushed at that moment & you can practically HEAR his heart breaking when he's looking at the possibility of the Doctor leaving him behind.

I sadly don't REMEMBER how they sounded in the audios, embarrassingly enough! (Gah, I've got to get those surviving stories as well! I want to see Victoria's lovely cloak!)

If they really toreup that often, probably not. :/

Well, Liz Shaw also rocked the cute miniskirts, you know. :D

As for me, I want to HAVE Victoria's cloak!
Reply
Aww. But yes, that's probably for the best in some way - having one's skirt rip so easily could be quite a bit more problematic than having it flop about a bit too high!
Well, Liz Shaw also rocked the cute miniskirts, you know. :D
SHE MOST CERTAINLY DID! :D & I totally want a pair of boots like hers. They'd look great with my new green miniskirt!
As for me, I want to HAVE Victoria's cloak!
Me too! It's SO pretty! ::sighs:: & would go well over my winter fleeces.
Reply
Absolutely. It's still a shame, though.

I think it would go well with practically anything.

::nodnod:: Though the scandalmonger in me kind of likes the idea of such fashion. :P

By chance, are there any coloured pictures of her in it? I've seen icons of her in it that have been coloured, but I've never seen an actual proper colour picture of it. I always imagine it as maybe being a scarlet or crimson shade - I don't know why, though. Maybe I'm subconsiously associating her in that serial with Little Red Riding Hood?
Reply
But try and imagine you wearing such a skirt when it rips open. :P

Sadly, no. All the images I've seen of it are in black-and-white.
Maybe I'm subconsiously associating her in that serial with Little Red Riding Hood?
Possibly - but you should keep in mind that she's actually Alice, so it's probably blue. ;)

Erm . . . where would it be ripping, exactly? ::suddenly looks a bit nervous::
Sadly, no. All the images I've seen of it are in black-and-white.
O fiddle! The BBC probably burnt all the colour images when they burnt the serial. ::glares::

Teehee! Yes, quite possibly. :P
Incidentally, in my Jamie/Victoria fluffy silliness, one of Two's recommendations in the bookshop for Victoria is The Annotated Alice. :D

Most likely, in the most inconventient place (and time) you can think of.

But for some reason all the paperwork for that serial has reached us intact. *death glare*

*grins* Such a lovely idea. :D

O my word! Okay, that wouldn't be very fun, I admit.

The BBC were EVIL, EVIL little people. ::Leela!snarl::
*grins* Such a lovely idea. :D
I thought she would quite like that story - & OF COURSE Two would give her the HUGE annotated version. :P
Reply
They deserve to be shacked up with RTD and make each other miserable.
I thought she would quite like that story
I have the feeling she would - after all, the original book was published a few years before she was kidnapped by the Daleks, and was such a huge best-seller she would have very likely read it by then.

THIS. A LOT. ::even MORE glaring::

It's been ages since I read The Annotated Alice, so I'd forgotten that it was published around Victoria's time! I actually just saw a (rather battered softcover version) copy of it at the used bookshop & I DID think about getting it, but I wound up not getting anything that day, actually.
