In The Beholder's Eye
Who decides what beauty is?
Two people stand before the same piece of art---
one claiming paradise, while the other claims hell.
It has been documented that one can still find love in concentration camps.
Documented as well that Cancer can be a reminder to live,
instead of only a disease that kills.
Watching the one legged dancer,
the audience cheers, and forgets to be sad.
The girl who has just lost her mother
tells her father to be brave,
but bravery is already inherent in the listener.
The sheltered soul reaches out once again,
forcing half-open eyes to blink directly into the sun,
listening to the message that the silent observer can unfold
in everything around us.
He may be slow, but he is compassionate
and determined to succeed;
she may be sickly, but she has a creative and passionate spirit
that does not give up no matter what the odds...
easily accepting themselves in all their faults,
each reminding us to keep our eyes not only on the skies,
for sometimes a flower springs from the gutter in late Fall.
Who decides what Beauty is?
The philosophers can't tell you, but they will always ramble on.
getting the groove on,
poetry,
in the beholder's eye
