they gave me an offer I couldn't refuse

I should be sleeping. Tomorrow is another jam packed day of campus visitation-- the last day and then I can go home to my babes. Today I signed a letter of intent, so it feels like tomorrow will be sort of anticlimactic. Today was excellent. I spent most of it with the prospective cohort. All but one person showed up. They are all leaning strongly towards this school. I hope they all come. I love them all already.
USC has given me a phenomenal aid package. I had to read the letter several times to be sure that I understood it correctly. There was no need to bargain, no need to leverage. I went momentarily blind from shock when I first read the letter. In addition to the base program fellowship, I was also awarded three University fellowships. I will get a $28,000/year stipend for five years. This is in addition to tuition and health insurance. Not only am I funded for five years, but I will have summer funding for five years as well. It's just better than I could have ever imagined.
& the people here are excellent as well. I am really excited about my prospective cohort. I also met with my two first year advisors and fell in love on the spot. They are both really brilliant people who are are really down to earth. F.M. can transition from a discussion of the problems of Spike Lee films to Lacan without batting an eye. We ended up running over our appointed time slot because we got caught up in a discussion of the social significance of Good Times in relation to welfare policy disourse. What I mean is that I feel like i have found an intellectual home here. I think the next five years are going to be quite amazing.
I lost my cell phone Saturday, which means that I have also lost all my phone numbers and all of my calendar dates for the next month. Fortunately, I had insurance so there will be a phone waiting for me when I get home. In the meantime I feel a little disoriented. Of course, that could just be the travelling.
If you are reading this and know my cell phone # call me after Wednesday so that I can start to build up my phonebook anew. (That means you sholanda and zooey.)
