A cry for help from a vidder on the wrong side of the Atlantic Ocean: would anyone going to Vividcon be willing/able to pick me up a DVD and post it to me after the con? All costs would of course be reimbursed and I'd be very very grateful.
I went to see
Avenue Q yesterday. As I arrived in Leicester Square beforehand to wait for my friend to meet me, I happened upon the "Over the Hedge" premiere taking place there, and for lack of anything better to do joined the fairly diminutive crowd of people trying to get a look at who was on the red carpet. For a couple of minutes I didn't see anyone I recognised, but then the actress from the first series of Doctor Who (the large-ish woman who played the cabinet minister/Slitheen in two episodes) walked by, which was cool. But *then* everyone started really whooping and getting all het up, and suddenly Bruce Willis was looming right in front of me. People were sticking their hands out for him to touch (which creeped me out a bit) and he mostly obliged and then continued to wander round for a while looking generally quite smug as I suppose is his wont. I took a picture on my phone, which made me feel slightly dirty - it just seemed like the right thing to do at the time, but really WHY do I care about getting a picture of Bruce Willis of all people? Probably partly because I have an unhealthy addiction to trashy celebrity magazines and celebrity gossip in general (it's like a real life soap opera!), and also because I hardly ever see any celebrities, despite living in London, while friends and people at work seem to be constantly telling me they saw such-and-such on the street or on the tube or in a club. But I generally seem to have quite good luck with Leicester Square - last summer I remember coming across the War of the Worlds premiere there when I was walking through, and seeing Tom Cruise addressing his adoring fans from a balcony above the cinema. Clearly Leicester Square is the place designated to me by the Fates for serendipituous celebrity spotting.
Anyway, back to the point: Avenue Q, which was fantastic. It took me a while to get into it, but about half way through the first act I was hooked. I loved the South Park-ness of it, and the puppets were great, and the small cast was amazing and mostly MY AGE goddamnit it and sickeningly talented. Also, it was at times surprisingly touching and heart-wrenching, which I wasn't expecting. Possibly what I loved the most though was that the climax of the whole thing was a George Bush joke. Hee.
Finally, ages and ages ago
skeeta tagged me to do the meme where you put your iPod on shuffle and list the ten songs that it throws up. About a quarter of my ipod tracks are mp3s of Ricky Gervais/Stephen Merchant/Karl Pilkington
radio shows and podcasts, so I skipped past those wherever they came up, but otherwise the results were:
1. State of Things, Turin Brakes
2. Spanish Main, The Coral
3. Chihuahua, Sugarcubes
4. Levon, Elton John
5. Snooks (Progress Report), Elbow
6. Eddie's Gun, The Kooks
7. Having a Blast, Green Day
8. Get Me To The Church on Time, Hey Mr Producer! Soundtrack
9. Perhaps Vampires is a Bit Strong, Arctic Monkeys
10. Then I Kissed Her, The Beach Boys
I don't have that much affection for any of those tracks, which are all mostly from albums I otherwise enjoy. My iPod clearly doesn't know me at *all*.
