[ By the time she reaches the house, Nill can feel that her back is numb. One wing hangs almost pathetically from her back, stained red. The cut in her back isn’t deep, but it’s enough to burn and sting with pain.
As soon as she steps inside the door, she drops her bag to the floor against the wall with a quiet thud. Nill closes her eyes tight for a moment, like if she hopes hard enough, this’ll have just been a nightmare. When she opens her eyes again and the pain is still there, she knows she’s not so lucky.
She makes it a few steps while leaning against the wall, before she can’t get further and slips to her knees and curls her arms around herself the most she can.]
