Zach had washed today. He had forgotten while he'd been holed up in his room studying his, and johnny's journal. Finally, after days without real food and washing, even he had felt kind of gross.
When he'd seen that it was raining early in the evening, he went out on the roof and let the rainwater wash the worse of the grime from him. Hunger too, was finally driving him out of his house and he'd made plans to meet up and get a new journal, so after dressing in semi-clean clothes, he walked through town towards the tavern he liked to meet up with the guy who had offered the journal.
He sat down, resting his elbows on the old fashioned table and adjusted his glasses, peering into the shadows from under his spidery tangle of hair, waiting.
