If a man wanted to know what was going on around Rivelata's new arrivals, there was no one better to talk to than someone who obsessively followed the journals. Youji had spent about a day reading through the backlogs on his own, having no choice but to force himself to skip a lot of comments. That meant he was potentially missing out on a lot.
What he hadn't missed was Peony's self-admission that he followed everything that happened in the journals. Either he or someone he'd talked to had compared it to watching a soap opera.
Talking to Peony alone was never going to happen. It was fortunate, then, that Youji had taken an interest to the Colonel's entries. He might not have as much dirt on the arrivals as his Emperor, but Jade was military. Jade apparently had a lot of firepower, even if it was limited here. Jade also knew tactics, probably better than a lot of other people in the city. And Youji needed all the tactics he could get.
Sure, it felt bad to be going behind Weiss' back, but they were content to not do anything. Youji didn't want to involve them if they were satisfied with the status quo. It was just the old part of him, back when he'd been a P.I., that didn't want to settle.
So it wasn't Balinese, the assassin, who strolled into the teahouse that evening. It was Detective Kudou, and it was surprising how easily old roles slipped back on.
