Dist snarled in anger as he noticed Jade readying another attack. What kind of training WAS this? He was glad he had put up his barrier to protect him but even that wasn't going to be enough, and with the little energy he had, it wouldn't last long. Dist felt his breathing quicken, panicking as he desperately tried to figure out what he should do, what to do, what to do...the wave of wind was now hurling its way through the air at him...

Raising his hands in instinctive defense, Dist yelped as a burst of flame fonons exploded from his palms. The flames licked at the wave of wind, exploding in mid-air with an intense heat which Dist's barrier couldn't stand against. He felt his clothing and body grow very hot all of a sudden, his fingers and forearms prickling painfully from the burning sensation.

He stumbled back, panting heavily, his forearms still prickling and stinging, his face still hot and flushed. "B-Be-careful!" He hollered at Jade, though he was sure by now Jade wouldn't bother listening. "I'm at a disadvantage, you know! Just you WAIT until I've got my new Kaiser Dist XX-2 up and running...you'll never DARE call me...deadwood AGAIN!!"

Jade felt the power flowing through him... it had been so long... the fonons filling him, making him feel so alive. The circle of fonons dug an impression into the ground, a spiderweb of cracks, of sand parting in front of a power that wasn't quite right, that was a bit... wild.

"How many of your Kaisers have I destroyed, Dist? Nineteen? Is that why you are building number twenty?"

How long had it been, since he felt like this?
Since Rivelata? A month? Since the seal? Two months? Since he last was on a campaign that wasn't simply diplomatic... how long ago was that?

Alive... so alive...

The circle of fonons spread, flattening the dunes around him... Jade's pupils widened until his eyes looked black, without even a rim of crimson.

He laughed.

Suddenly he remembered the last time he had felt so powerful, so exhilarated, so free... Oh no...

He tried to stop it, but it was too late. The power burst forth, and the sand tore open to vomit stalagmites of hardened rock, splitting open into huge gaping maws rising from hardening sand... spreading around him, rising then shattering, spreading further and further...

Jade's knees buckled under him and he fell to the ground in a boneless heap. Everything was still, but the coastline looked... different.

No matter what Jade said, sometimes the Necromancer was the one that needed babysitting. It had been all too easily to follow the others to their practice. They had both been do distracted with bantering and arguing with each other, the Emperor had been able to silently keep steps behind them. It wasn't as if it was the first time he had secretly watched the two practice their fonic artes.
As children, the scenario had not been much different.
Peony again, watched from the hills above the beaches, curiously watching the two attempt to re-master the skills that had been so diminished by the strange atmosphere of Rivelata. He had wondered if it had been a good idea to invite Dist back to them. Despite their differences, the Keterburg trio had been infamous in their youth for always being together- and for getting into trouble. It had changed after Nebilim, would it ever be near the same?

A sigh, as the blonde Emperor watched the two wistfully. He had always wanted to join them, but what could he do? Peony wasn't a fonist, and he certainly wasn't a genius either. His skill with a sword was adequate, but Jade or Dist could easily wipe the floor with him if it came to a battle. Resting his head on his knees, the scene unfolded much as he thought it would. Dist flailing about, Jade impressing him each moment with his quickly growing strength.
He couldn't quite hear the insults and words being hurled from his grassy seat, but he could only guess the thrashing Dist was receiving.

The sky was growing dark, quickly. Bad weather? No, it was something else. Peony felt an uncomfortable twinge, a shiver running down his spine. Something bad was about to happen, something familiar. He knew what it was now, power. Far too much power. He didn't have to be a fonist to know where it was coming from, because he knew Jade all to well.

The ground was shaking, and Peony half-ran half-slid down the hill, sandaled feet carrying him fast, but not fast enough. The rock obscured Jade, causing Peony's heart to flipflop in his chest. Not again- He sprang onto the sand as the rock was spreading. Morning practice was going to have to come in handy. He barely dodged a razor-edged stalagmite, and then threw himself into the sand to avoid another.
He was going to kill Jade for this.
Almost as soon as Jade began to sink to the ground, Peony slid through the sand behind the Colonel- catching him in strong arms and landing roughly on his back.
