Trial Day 1 // Wednesday January 28th // Day 307 rivechancellor January 28 2009, 22:07:41 UTC
Xaldin (Day 1) - part one because Xaldin is a talker. fakebritgit January 28 2009, 23:02:29 UTC
Xaldin believed in punctuality. As he had promised a fair testimony to the Chancellor the previous night, come midday, he was at the gates, ready to speak. The process to gain admittance to the hearing room took surprisingly little time, and once he stood before the Council, under the heavy weight of no powers, he cleared his throat to speak ( ... )

He caught his breath, and began to pace. "Before that unfortunate day, however, the six of us were quite good friends. In those days, Ienzo was inquisitive, kind, and very assertive when necessary. He loved to read, and loved to write even more. He was also the youngest of all of us, and extremely intelligent. His specialty, as I mentioned, was psychology and thaumaturgy - the study of magic as a science. He also was persuasive, and easily persuaded himself. He was dear friends with Xehanort, and it was Ienzo's glib tongue that convinced Master Ansem to allow us to conduct our experiments on darkness ( ... )

It was fascinating, Xaldin's story. To hear the history behind the group-- to come to know who and what they were before they arrived in Rivelata was nothing short of breathtaking. It was strange, hearing all of it, invading their privacy. Within a span of a few minutes, she'd come to learn more of them than she had some of her fellow Council members.

"I do thank you, Sir, for all of that information. I assure you, it will be kept in mind, and is greatly appreciated. I'm sure you can imagine," Garnet paused for a moment, nearly thrown off by her formality, but soon continued: "Very few of us know them as intricately as you do. ...I understand that Nobodies are devoid of emotion and conscious, yes? When taking that into account, it is easy to see how one would be willing to go so far to grasp something one ... feels-- pardon my wording-- so strongly they want. I am curious about one thing, though: Are Nobodies aware and capable of understanding and realizing the differences between right and wrong?"

WOW Journal fail. So sorry. fakebritgit January 30 2009, 04:48:51 UTC
"Understanding, yes," Xaldin answered. "Realizing it, however, and weighing the morality and consequences, is much, much more difficult, to the point that it takes concerted effort. It is like asking a blind man to see with his eyes - while he may be able to find his way around using his other senses, he never is quite able to actually see."

"That should solve the argument right there," the General said in a very grumpy tone from his seat. "They cannot be helped, because even if you tell them what to do to make things right, they won't be able to know intrinsically that it is. Like the guy says, can't make a blind man see."

He slumped in his seat, obviously very agitated and yet it was only the first day of the trials - the first testifier even.

"No General, a blind man cannot be made to see..." the Chancellor glanced over Xaldin to address Garnet and the other Councilors for their opinions. "But apparently this blindness was cured - the thing preventing them from having a conscience, and knowing the difference between right and wrong, was the lack of a heart, as I understand it. Their crimes being what they are, the men we seek to punish do have their hearts. In that sense the crimes being tried are intended to punish very different people."

However, her eyes fell on the Queen, knowing Her Majesty could not see it. "However I will not deny that some form of justice must be done here."

Then his expression became more serious. "Doesn't excuse the hectopascals though," he snarled.

"Anyway. After a while I just... couldn't take it. But I was told by Axel that I could get my heart back, though it'd hurt like hell. I... at the time I just didn't care about anything, but Kariya convinced me that it was worth it, so we went to Xemnas, and... well. It gets a little fuzzy then. I remember that whatever we did hurt like all hell, but that when it was done I was whole again."

He shook his head. "After that I tried to avoid Axel as much as possible. I know they hurt a lot more people than just me, I... eh."

He shrugged. "That's all."

Difficult to understand, this one was, with his strange vocabulary and terminology, but Garnet attempted her best to filter the useful information from the rest, which proved easy enough. She regarded him curiously, her expression soft, and when he finished, she offered a curt nod. "Thank you, Mister Minamimoto." She readied her quill, and leaned forward slightly in her seat. "Did Axel appear to have any hidden motive behind offering you more power? Was there any price to pay? I know this must be difficult, but if there's anything you can think of-- Anything you might have overheard or seen?"

"Yeah," said Sho, almost immediately. "He... hrm."

Deep breath.

"He needed my heart. That's how they made those resonance crystals - they needed hearts to make them. I was their first test subject. I think... if my calculations are correct, he realized my personal desire for power and exploited it. He knew he could use me."

He paused, chewing his lip again in thought. "When they made the crystals, they also needed people with strong hearts, with powerful waveforms, resonances. Apparently mine was what they were looking for in their first test."

"Then..." the Queen turned to the sound of Garnet's voice. "Did Axel not help Mister Minamimoto in the end? How else could his heart have been..." She stumbled over the words. "Put back? It seems as though something made Axel want to help Mister Minamimoto after all of this tragedy occurred... after the experiment..."

She turned to the rest of the Council. "Was there not some hint in the journals about this? I recall hearing something... I cannot be sure what anymore..."

Immaculada seemed to fidget with her own journal, as if hesitant to make it read for her in the presence of others.

Yuuko Ichihara (Day 1) whatisyourwish January 29 2009, 04:47:20 UTC
Yuuko arrived at the castle in the early afternoon, a striking figure, dressed all in black. She greeted the major and followed him into the castle. She sat silently in the waiting room, offering nothing more than a nod as a greeting to anyone who happened to enter.

When the time came for her to testify, she entered the room with all of her usual grace and sat down. Her expression didn't change as she addressed the council.

"I am Yuuko Ichihara. What is it that you wish to know?"

Looking up at the next testifier, the Chancellor appeared to smile - or at least look relieved. "Miss Ichihara. Let us start with this... Please tell us what you know of the so-called Resonance Crystals and their relationship to the men on trial, Zexion and Axel."

Yuuko tilted her head back a little, appearing to be thinking.

"I suppose I first heard of them when Zexion first announced their sale in the journals," she said carefully, "I asked about how they were made, and he was somewhat evasive. When the crystal owned by my friend Rikku was stolen from her, I managed to obtain it with the intention of returning it to her, but she disappeared before I could. After...examining the crystal, I was able to detect the human heart."
