Even though it was QUITE late at night, Axel was heading to the Pen and Sword. Larxene was gone. Kariya was gone. He had swords to deliver ("Can't they wait for tomorrow?" Argust had grumbled). He had things to discuss.

He rushed quietly through the streets, stealing a glance up at the moon. It was almost full - shit. He'd have to find a safe place to go when his curse kicked in. The forge was probably safe as anything.

And then, there was... something. A cloud? Fog? No, it shifted too strangely to be anything normal -too bright, too ...

everything went black.

--

"Do you know why the sunset appears red? It's because in the spectrum of visible light, red reaches the farthest."

Roxas's smiling face, a stick of ice cream in his hand. "You're just showing off, Axel."

Xion's keyblade was drawn, staring at Axel, and frowning.

Intense anger. "No fucking way!!" he shouted. "I'll bring your ass back, no matter how many times it takes!"

tick

"Your mind's made up?"

Roxas paused, thinking. "... No one would miss me."

"That's not true!" A twist of sadness, which did not subside when Roxas continued walking away.

"... I would...."

tick

"You really do remember me this time!" he was screaming, his throat raw. "I'm so FLATTERED!"

Flames burst into a ring, he was going to kick Roxas's ass- not because Saix would maul him if he returned empty handed, no. This was personal.

"But you're too late!"

And one after the other, Oblivion and Oathekeeper were drawn against him. Maybe Roxas hadn't forgotten? Or maybe he had. It didn't matter anymore.

tick

He'd lost. Roxas was going to finish this stupid journey, was going to fall right into DiZ's clutches, was going to ultimately lose. If only he'd come with him...

"Lets meet again, in the next life..."

A faint smile from Roxas. "Yeah, I'll be waiting."

"Silly... just because YOU have a next life..."

It was over, for both of them.

And then he woke up, suddenly.

... and he was sad.

Frowning, Axel stood and dusted himself off and went to see Zexion.
