WHO: Maka Albarn [falce], Soul Eater Evans [soulnommer] and Mansex Xemnas [pontificates]. WHAT: *Cue jaws theme* Maka sees her first soul in Rive. Aint pretty, I imagine. D: WHERE: Pen and Sword. WHEN: ...Whatever day today is.
In The World That Never Was, Xemnas never had time to be bored. There was always some plan to attend to, or some world to investigate. And even if there wasn't, he had the luxury of being able to gaze upon his Kingdom Hearts and dream of its completion

Maka heard the voice from behind the counter, and she turned away from bickering with Soul to look at the source of the voice welcoming them into the store. She opened her mouth to speak, but suddenly it felt the the filter masking other peoples souls were gone.
She could see his as clear as day, hovering over his chest. It was large, indicating strength -- a reason to fear.
The girl froze, and perhaps to anyone but Soul, they may think this as normal behavior from her. Soul, on the other hand, would know something was wrong.
She could see his soul. It was dark, so dark. It was like she was facing Asura all over again, but it was so unexpected. And worse. It was so much worse. She stood there, staring at the black soul -- as slowly, a look of horror spread across her face. He had no heart. He was not human, but he was not a Kishin, nor a corrupted human

Having no emotions of his own, Xemnas could easily read other's emotions. He was no empath, not by a long shot, but he could see Maka's fear at the sight of him.
He was sitting there passively, doing nothing threatening, which lead Xemnas to one conclusion - this was someone that could see his lack of heart, and the terrifying power he held. This is someone that saw him for who - for WHAT he really was.
This was someone who needed to be informed of just what exactly would happen if she told anyone.
But, since she was clearly playing it cool, he decided to follow suit. What could this mere little girl, who wasn't even a keybearer, do to him physically? No, he did not fear her.
"I am Xemnas," he said calmly, the deep tones of his voice betraying no suspicion - or really, no emotion at all. "If you were expecting Zexion, you'll have to forgive him. He had to step out for a bit."
It was only natural that Soul would dislike shopping. It meant he had to go walk around for food he may or may not burn, and it also meant he couldn't be lazy, sleep, otherwise waste time and not study, etc. When Maka complained about him lagging, the weapon jogged a little (hands still in his jacket pockets, slouched over) to catch up.
He lifted one hand out to scratch his head at the Pen and Sword - a pun no doubt on the phrase, but he ignored it and followed Maka in.
His hand curled around Maka's in reassurance. There was something she was seeing that he wasn't. Was this like seeing Stein's or was it worse? He suspected worse with the way she reached out, but he awarded her points for being so calm in spite of this.
There was something off about the way he spoke. It wasn't as deadpan as Soul had spoken, it was more, as if the man neither cared nor wanted to care

Her hand shook slightly, until Soul's hand squeezed it -- her grip grew a little firmer, and her fear(she was so weak if she was shaking like this) was easily held back in her firm determination to figure out just what was going on.
And of course, Soul was far from wrong in his assumptions. Maka didn't think he ever was when it was something important like this. As clueless as he was due to the fact that he was a man, he wasn't that stupid when it came to important issues like seeing souls and their enemies.
Maka was positive this Xemnas fellow was not a friend.
Her eyes narrowed at the man's response. "Maybe I phrased myself wrong," She would rely on Soul when it was time to need a weapon. "What are you?" She asked. If he was worse then Asura -- how was that possible? -- she wanted to know just what could possibly be worse than that. Which had so clearly put fear in all of her friends.

Slowly, Xemnas stood, and took two deliberate steps towards Maka, making no movements that would, to a regular observer, seem threatening.
"I am..." he said, then looked up at the ceiling, as though he was choosing the right words. Even though he already knew exactly what he would say.
He looked back down, directly at Maka, his orange eyes alight with intelligence, seeming to say to the girl 'I know you see me.'
"I am Nothing."
