Adam entered the teashop, tugging on his shirt sleeve nervously. He always felt awkward in the Rivelatan clothes, but he couldn't very well walk around in the same pair of clothes everyday, now could he? He felt awkward.
Nonetheless, he came here to help Tifa and Adam knew that she needed help. He hadn't been paying attention to the journals much lately, trying to work more at odd jobs to pay his rent, but he hadn't missed the blood splatters. It always irked him everytime. And he also felt guilty, like he could have done something to help those who had been in need.
Adam shook his head and looked around, it wasn't long before he spotted her and made his way over.
"Hey," he said softly, taking a seat across from her. "How're you doing?"
Tifa smiled faintly at Adam and shook her head. She wasn't entirely sure what to say.
"I'm...doing a bit better. The blood in the journals shook me up, but..." Tifa trailed off and fiddled with her teacup, taking a deep breath.
"My children disappeared. Well they weren't mine, but I was--I was taking care of them. Marlene and Denzel. I was supposed to be watching them, and they...they're gone."
She swiped at her eyes with a napkin for a moment and glanced off to the side. "I know it happens here, but...it just...it really bothers me. What kind of place sends children here and then just...takes them away?"
Adam closed his eyes with a small sigh. "I'm sorry."
When he opened them, he gave her a small smile. "I'm sure... I'm sure they're alright though. Maybe they went back home? The same way they were brought here? I mean, they just disappeared, right?"
"They did, but..." Tifa fiddled with her shirt sleeve, her expression pensive. "I don't know. It's different when it's someone close to you, you know? And there's no way of knowing where they are...it's just awful to think about."
Tifa sighed and brushed a lock of hair behind her ear. "What if they don't go home?"
"We have no way of knowing, you're right," Adam said, rubbing the back of his neck. "But what if they did go home? Also, maybe we shouldn't think of the what if's? They'll only drive you crazy and you really don't have a way of knowing. I know it's hard to think about, having people disappear... it's happened to me before."
He tilted his head slightly, giving her another soft smile. "It drove me nuts but... it's better to focus on the now. On what you can do. Not what you should have done or could have done. Just... now."
Tifa glanced down into her teacup again. Master Zangan had told her once that psychics read tea leaves to find out a person's future. The closest thing to a psychic she knew was Cait Sith, and Aerith...
Tifa swallowed hard and took a deep breath. That was the problem. Every loss reminded her of Aerith, and the loss of Aerith reminded her of her former comrades in AVALANCHE, and that loss reminded her of Nibelheim...grief, it seemed, was a constant.
But hadn't she been strong enough to deal with it before? And what Adam was saying made sense. She had to focus on what she could do now, and given her history with AVALANCHE, her own fighting experience...she could do plenty.
"You're right...there's always something that can be done to help. I can assist..." The woman paused and trailed off.
This was a start, Tifa thought. She'd had headquarters before, in Seventh Heaven, and later the orphanage, in Edge. It was in her nature to help, and more than that...it gave her purpose. Something to keep grief from eating away at her.
"Alright! There are plenty of empty buildings, and we'd need equipment, help...but..." Tifa grinned. "I'm sure people will be willing to help."
She extended her hand to him, a handshake to seal the deal. "Let's consider this a partnership, alright?"

"Hmm..." Tifa glanced up and frowned, considering this. "It'd probably be best to make the announcement afterward...there are a lot of empty buildings around though, so it won't take us too long to find one."
The woman sipped at her tea and smiled. "And...thanks, Adam. For your help."
