The Doctor had been very careful to pick the daylight hours for the construction of his project, just in case Matsuri ever got wind that he was actually at home and working on her new sunroom in a carefully hidden portion of the backyard. He didn't want her to see it until it was absolutely finished and polished and perfect, after all.
The Doctor hadn't been a father for quite some time. Well, actually, he'd been a father recently. But time was relative for people like him, anyway. The point was, he was rusty at these fatherly affection things, and didn't quite know how to act around Matsuri and her new beau. The one thing he did know - and this much was fairly clear - was that Matsuri was someone he had to protect, whether it was from sunlight or snakes or smarmy young men. And so here he was, inviting the boy in question to help him with his project - Doctor Dad indeed - for some quality interrogation bonding time.
He stood waiting for Yorito in the farthest corner of the backyard, hammer in his hands and box of nails on the ground, cut piles of lumber to one and a large piece of paper to the other. Sleeves rolled and glasses safely tucked into his folded-up jacket, The Doctor tapped his trainers impatiently on the grass. He could only pray Matsuri didn't notice.
