Selene's eyes seemed to get considerably lighter in hue, from sky to ice, brightening along with the ever-present and growing irritation on her face. For fuck's sake, this was disgusting. She could just as easily have hired someone to do it for her under normal circumstances, but at the moment she was running just a bit low on cash. Hiring two scientists and setting up a full laboratory down in her basement had not been a cheap undertaking, and she was left with exactly 3 ladies for the month, until Marion paid her for rent. She didn't like being low on cash. She wasn't accustomed to anything short of complete decadence.

Selene was, however, quite a bit stronger than it looked like a woman of her build should be. No doubt owing to her peculiar species, she seemed to have no problem whatsoever heaving the bloated corpses around from water, to shore, to pile, into repetition. She was not heaving around two at a time like Kaiman was, but there was a certain grace and fluidity to her movements that allowed her to work quite a bit faster. She was managing to pull two bodies ashore per every two that the large lizard heaved at once.

His question was certainly valid though, and Selene was -- if nothing else -- a rather accurate repository of information. She answered him while continuing to work, her voice monotone, straightforward, and reflecting a very proper English accent:

"The people here would take all the corpses and throw them into a clearing just yonder in the jungle. Before long, there was a whole field of them, just rotting away in the heat, and when the rains came a few weeks ago, it washed all of them out of the clearing and down here to the river. We thought they would just float out to the ocean and sink, but... well, look. A few got stuck, and now we have this mess to deal with."
