It was a dangerous habit of Max's to protect weaker people. First Jojo, then Thumbelina. The first she was used to, the second was a scared little girl. Maybe she'd been harsh for that criticism of her rationale, but, really, Max was concerned that she'd gone out and with Bleachboy running around killing people, it sickened Max to think the innocent girl might be next.
She took off out of her room, jumping out the window. She ignored the bleeding that erupted from the harsh movement of her shoulder - which had yet to fully heal from Hiruma's oh-so-sharp claws - and began to stain her shirt. Still, Max pumped her wings, keeping her bird vision well tuned for a small girl. She kept low between the buildings, ignoring the occasional jolt of pain as she flew between them, grazing her wingtips.
