WHO: Shirley Fenette (
harenochi), Lelouch Lamperouge (
geasszero), Nunnally Lamperouge (
pinkyswearsis), and anyone who comes to help Lelouch pick them up.
WHAT: Lelouch picks Shirley up from the docks, not knowing someone else is there...
WHERE: The docks, wherever their steps lead them after.
WHEN: Early evening, Day 98
Shirley. Shirley was here, and the way she was before. His friend. A great friend. The girl he argued with, the girl he laughed with, the girl who had kissed him, the girl who loved him.
How had he repaid her? Killed her father-- "collateral damage", but but he had killed her all the same-- and stolen away her memories of him, all of them. Both actions had been for the greater good, but, all the same, they were sins, the burden he had to bear, the hard decisions he had to make that no others could, no others would. The sins that he would commit to win a war against an evil greater yet.
He could not turn his back on her. Not when she remembered everything. Not when she was the Shirley he had lost.
Still... what would happen? Could he really keep her from learning he was Zero, that he was at fault for her father's death? Could he hide that from her again? If she did find out, what would he do? His Geass could, probably, wipe her memories all over again... but would that work, in a place like Rivelata, where magic was so weak? And what would become of her then? Who would take care of her, in a dangerous place like this?
With every new arrival from his world, new questions, new snarls, new possibilities, and new obstacles whirled in Lelouch's mind on a chessboard too Byzantine for any but a master to comprehend, and, right now, even the Council member was having trouble figuring out his next move.
But as he reached the docks and saw Shirley, he slipped on his best smile and strode up to her, hiding the harried look in his eyes and letting the genuine happiness at seeing her unharmed, and, more than that, his close friend again, show.
"Shirley, you're alright. I'm so gla--"
And then Lelouch's ears picked up a soft, lilting, curious voice. The bustle may have masked it from Shirley, for the voice was soft, as always, but Lelouch could pick it out of a crowd of millions.
Nunnally. Nunnally was here.
Suddenly bursting into motion, Lelouch grasped Shirley by the wrist and headed towards the sound of the voice, his own voice ringing out, shouting above the crowd..
"NUNNALLY!?!? NUNNALLY, WHERE ARE YOU?"
