Kaito stared at the door of the mansion and huffed. He didn't want to be here, really. Hell, he wasn't even dressed for it. His usual wife beater and all were good enough for any occasion. If he couldn't even be bothered to dress up for the annual dinner and dance back home, he wouldn't be bothered to dress himself up for something as stupid as this.

But there was something that Claire girl had said that had bothered him. So here he was, standing outside the mansion like an idiot, wondering if he should actually go in.

Jack loved parties. There was nothing quite like a good party. Parties meant drinks and people in fancy dresses and, all right, so Jack wasn't wearing a fancy dress or anything different than what he usually wore because he only owned the one suit of clothes and he wore it all the time and it was comfortable and practical and had everything he needed, and he didn't see any reason to actually change it, even if there were shops here that were giving away fancy suits for free ( ... )

It took Kaito a while before he realized he was being spoken to, and another while before he figured out what the heck the weirdo was rambling on about. Giving the other man a once over, Kaito rolled his eyes and waved the fellow on. "It's a fucking masquerade. If your outfit is pirate versus ninja, then by all means, get the fuck in there."

Jack scrunched up his nose and made a face as though he had suddenly discovered that the cream had gone sour. He considered momentarily whether he actually wanted to continue his conversation with this person, then recovered himself and decided it was worth defending his honor against any slander of inauthenticity.

"As 't 'appens, mate," he said taking a few loose steps closer to the man as though to reveal some clandestine secret, "I am not 'n fact masqueradin' as anythin' save for wha' I, indeed, already am. Savvy?"

Rum. The smell of stale rum whiffed off the man like cheap perfume Kaito took a step back and gave a disgusted frown. "Fine, fine. So you are a pirate then. Nice to meet you, Captain. Fuck off."

"Suit yerself, lad," Jack said with a disinterested tilt of his head, because he was here with no particular agenda except to have a good time and if this blighter didn't want to do the same it certainly wasn't any rum out of Jack's cup. He pivoted loosely on one foot and turned his steps once again in the direction of the entrance, wherein lay the party, and hopefully, the rum.

[ooc; we're logging this now cause we have no lives, evidently.]

Breaking away for a drink, by the time ten o'clock rolled around, seemed like a good idea to Miranda. She was beginning to get thirsty; and sitting down for a moment wasn't such a bad idea, either. She'd slipped away from Lavi, making her way to the refreshment table. A poured drink, and a few steps later, she'd finally seated herself in an empty chair, resting her legs. She really hadn't been expecting to stand this much at the ball, but she supposed she shouldn't have thought such a way because she had come with LaviShe took a deep breath, lifting the cup to her lips and glancing around the ballroom. People were still dancing, seemingly having a good time. And she had to admit, she was, too. She stretched her legs out in front of herself, before she tucked them underneath the chair again ( ... )

For the most part of the night, Demyx had been just wandering about, enjoying the music and socializing a little. His initial nervousness was slowly disappearing; it certainly didn't look like he was about to get thrown in another random cave prison again.

It was around ten o'clock that he noticed her. And she wasn't with her date.

A bright smile broke out across his face. He weaved in between the people milling about to get to Miranda, reaching her in time to stand in front of her before she slipped away and back to Lavi.

"Hiya, Miranda." Demyx greeted cheerfully, "How's your night so far?"

She'd just been about to stand up when she noticed Demyx standing in front of her all of a sudden. She let out a small squeal of surprise, one hand flying over her mouth as she settled back down into the chair to recover from her near-heart attack.

Miranda could almost tell that Demyx had been on the lookout for her. He'd just appeared so... suddenly. It was weird; but maybe he was just good at that sort of thing. But maybe she was just being paranoid, since he had said he would steal a dance from her.

"G-good.." She stuttered out, smiling softly. "Yours..?" She asked. So far, she guessed, they were the only two that had been kidnaped before that had turned up at this ball. Brave? Stupid? Maybe... She liked to hope maybe they were just brave, and that nothing would happen.

Demyx laughed gently when she squealed, smiling her apologetically. "Sorry." He said sincerely. He should have remembered who skittish Miranda could get.

"Same here. The music is nice." Of course the music would be the first thing Demyx would take note of. Music was always a part of him and that was obvious; even the mask he had chosen reflected that.

"In fact, I think this song is one of the nicest." He said as the music changed to a lovely waltz. Laughing a little, he bowed and extended his hand for Miranda to take. "Care to dance to it with me?" The only thing keeping it from being a full act of old-fashioned chivalry was the obvious amused smile on his face and slight laughter in his voice.

Miranda smiled a little, nodding in agreement. The music was nice, and it was certainly enjoyable and easy to listen to. "It is..." She trailed off a little when Demyx continued to speak, and she tilted her head to the side slightly, listening to the tune of the song. Maybe Demyx was right; it was a really nice song. But she hadn't been quite listening to all the others entirely, so she didn't quite think she could compare without a bias ( ... )

Demyx was getting used to the way Miranda often tripped over things and how she acted so skittish and clumsy all the time; but he was also patient. He steadied her when she tripped and latched on to him.

"Then let's dance." And with Miranda still on his arm, he brought her out onto the dance floor. It had been a while since he last waltzed with anyone, so he did what he remembered, placed his right hand just below her left shoulder blade and took her right hand into his left.

The blond took up the lead, and he seemed to have no trouble falling right into the rhythm of the tune. "You've waltzed before, haven't you?" He asked softly, smiling teal eyes meeting with hers.

She'd been so used to dancing with Lavi, that the difference in their body types made her hesitate, like she'd forgotten how to dance completely. She seemed to recover quick enough from her momentary amnesia, and put her hand on his shoulders. It was easier to stand like this with Demyx; he was closer to her height, and not only that, but he didn't mind her when she tripped or flailed over him.

She bit her bottom lip a bit, glancing down at their feet every few seconds as they moved with the rhythm of the instrumental. "W-with Lavi.. earlier.. but I'm still not so good at it.." She said, looking up at Demyx, remembering how Lavi had eventually told her to stop looking at her feet when she'd kept doing it when she'd danced with him.

"I guess you have, right..?" She asked, looking over the staff and the music notes on his mask.

"Yeah." He answered, "But it's been a while. I don't have anyone to dance with back home." Being surrounded by a bunch of moody, male (excluding Larxene, but she was more likely to just electrocute him anyway) Nobodies all the time didn't really offer much time for dancing with a partner.

"Aw, you're doing just fine, Miranda." Demyx said in response to her thinking she wasn't that good at it. "It takes practice, so don't worry. Besides, we're all just here for fun, right? So it doesn't matter if it's not completely perfect."

She listened to him, not really surprised that he'd admitted to having danced before. But for some reason, a waltz didn't quite seem so... Demyx. Miranda wasn't sure why. He seemed too... full of spunk for that, for lack of a better word, really.

But her mind had wandered too far away from the fact that she was supposed to be paying attention to where her feet moved, and the rhythm of the music. It only took a second for Miranda to accidently tangle her feet with Demyx's, and with a loud yelp, she'd sent them both crashing to the floor with a loud thump.

Realizing just what she'd done, Miranda looked down at Demyx with wide eyes. "Are you okay?!" She asked, voice rushed and her usual stutter completely lost in her concern for the other in case he'd hit his head or something.
