Last weekend I bought a knitting machine from a friend. It's a gently used Singer SR-155 Chunky Punch Card Knitter with ribber and intarsia carriage. Circa 1984. I have successfully set the machine up and knitted a swatch. That was Tuesday. Last night I gave it two more tries and gave up. The carriage isn't passing very smoothly and I have tried everyting in the manual to loosen it up, but they are not working. The next step is to use every other needle and see if that helps. The practice yarn I was given with the machine is a heavy worsted, which this machine is supposed to be able to handle. The yarn is quite stiff, which could be part of the problem also. I will keep trying.
I also got a new pair of glasses. I finally have true reading glasses and my first day at work I realized why some people wear the half framed glasses and look over them at people. Although I can see my monitor much better now, any sort of distance (beyond my fingertips) is very blurry and unpleasant to look at.
We had rain rain rain last night and this morning. I got to work this morning and we had no power. We sat there in the dark for 4 hours, left for lunch and came back to still no power. A little after 1 pm they decided that we could go home because the power company couldn't guarantee that the power would be restored during business hours. So, I got to come home and blog and play with my new machine!
