on XKCD, a sore knee and the first sunburn of the year

so, I've said it before, and will say it again, sometimes XKCD is a miss for me (maybe I'm just not enough of a geek? or as much of a geek as I WISH I were?), but sometimes, like today, it's totally a hit!. I have literally had this dream several times recently. LITERALLY. or the version where you haven't gone to class for ages or ever and the final exam is tomorrow:

I've been going to the gym regularly since the second week of january, and as is the case for plenty of people who get "gung ho" about working out (according to our trainer here at Fancy All girls' school) I've developed tendinitis in my left knee. I spoke to her only after my doctor had it xrayed b/c it was so swollen and said everything looked OK, probably just an overuse injury, so to take it easy for awhile, stay off it. No, that's not what you need to do, Toni (the trainer) said. According to her, and she's a sports doctor so I'm inclined to take her word, it's probably b/c I work out so much and don't stretch enough - apparently a tight hamstring can cause serious grief. she gave me a handful of stretches to do and let me know about how much moderate to vigorous exercise was OK for the time being. Mostly it's been aching up and down stairs or if I take a step funny or wrong - but yesterday I was finally starting to feel some relief, which is great! though, Emily and Katie are in town from earlham and we went on a big walk (well, not really...but a nice walk) in the arboretum yesterday and I did't stretch after and today my knee hurts more than yesterday...which is disappointing, but I'll probably live.

Scott's family was in town this weekend for his older sister's birthday - it was nice to see them, but even nicer to spend all of sunday outside with them: walking to brunch, eating brunch outside and then spending the entire afternoon at the St. Patricks Day Parade in Southie. I'm feeling like a million bucks, and like summer is right around the corner b/c I'm sporting the first sunburn of the year AND it's spring break so the school silent and there's not much to do...it's fantastic!

not nearly as fantastic as the fact that I am getting the hell out of boston for a week on saturday - I'm spending the first few days in Salt Lake City with my father and new family (which I am treating as a sort of mission, serving as emissary for my side of the family and checking them out, making first contact...) and then am going onto Portland, OR to see my dear dear friends Andrew and Lizzy for the rest of the week. it's a lot of time on planes for seven days, but that's OK, it'll be amazing to see everyone! I'm excited! I just need to make it through three more days of work (which will be easy b/c Emily and Katie are here and we're hoping to go and check out some apartments and see if Scott and I want to move, or stay in my place....)

happy spring folks, happy spring - we've made it through the winter, against all odds (or at least, that's what it felt like to me!)!!

parades, work, visits, parents, friends, vacations
