So I tried watching Teen Wolf (Again)
Last summer, I was bored, so I watched season 1 of Teen Wolf. Well, I think I may have actually stopped watching before the season finale. Because it just honestly didn't hold my interest.
Over the last couple months, I've seen my flist/twitter feed/the internet become obsessed with Teen Wolf, or to be more precise, Derek/Stiles. I remember watching Season 1 and getting definite ~vibes off of Stiles, so I was a bit intrigued. After all, it wouldn't be the first show to get better in the second season.
Well, I watched season 2 over the long weekend, and I'm afraid... I just could not see the appeal. First off, the under-ageness of them and the overtly sexy 'hey, let me show up to school looking like a stripper' or 'let's show a super seductive sex scene' kind of skeeved me. I'm not entirely sure why, since I've read a fair bit of "underage" fic that is, well, porn, but I guess to me there's always an edge of fantasy there - more ageplay than trying to be realistic - that lets my brain process it. And I realize teenagers have sex. There was just a certain level of slow-mo soft-porn scenes that had the effect of squicking me (whereas if it had been kept a bit subtler, I might have been more likely to get into the ships).
And speaking of the ships... I just did not read any UST off of Derek and Stiles. Yes, Stiles had to hold Derek's paralyzed body in the water to save his life. And yes, they lay next to each other paralyzed in that other scene. I guess I found the emotions behind Stiles unrequited love for Lydia more believable. Although I could read Stiles as bisexual, he had more chemistry with that gay guy on the Lacrosse team whose name I can't remember. Or Scott.
And for Derek, well, I'd rather read fic about Derek's reincarnated Alpha!Uncle (who seemed much snarkier and therefor sexier this season than last season) making Derek his bitch, or maybe some wolf orgy fic if we're going for pure porn. And that's coming from someone who really isn't into Alpha/Omega knotting!fic. (which, really, might be why I don't see the appeal of the show in general.)
Anyhow, this is not meant to be a judgement on anyone who likes the show and/or the ship. If anything, I'm glad to see that despite my more recent fandoms, I'm still just as likely to not follow the trend when it comes to the popular ships/fandoms.
