Weird Japanese Candy: Caramels

Mar 20, 2011 13:01

It's been awhile since I've done one of these.  Either food is seeming less weird, or I'm just approaching my limit on what I'm willing to try.

But yesterday... I found something.  Caramels from Hokkaido!  And really, how bad can caramels be? ...

Oh.  Ick.

First up, Tomato Caramel, because it scares me slightly less.

They're really hard.  And don't have a smell at all.  Maybe this won't be so bad.

Well.  This is... interesting.

I can't decide if it tastes good or repulsive.
It's like... tomato soup with a heavy dose of sugar.

It's.... surprisingly edible.  Huh.  I mean, I don't know that I want to eat the whole box, but I don't regret eating this one.  It tasted light candy with a slightly different flavor.  It was weird, but I didn't mind it.

Now, Ghengis Khan caramels.  The pictures make it looks like meat grill.

The smell.  Ok, yeah.  These have a smell.

Am getting nervous.  It's definitely a savory smell.  Kinda peppery too.

It might smell good if I didn't know it was attached to a caramel.

I'm kind of delaying eating this.

Ok.  In my mouth.

Um

Um

My brain is so fucking confused.

OMG I SPIT THAT OUT

IT WAS SERIOUSLY JUST LIKE EATING A PIECE OF STEAK AND A CARAMEL AT THE SAME TIME

OH MY GOD

MY TONGUE MAY NEVER RECOVER

Good thing I bought some Haribo GummiBears at the import store.  It's washing the flavor out nicely.

I think I'm going to give these caramels to unsuspecting people.  omg so nasty.

So... who wants me to mail them a pack of Ghengis Khan mongolian grill caramels?  :D

weird food, what is this i dont even, japan
