灰色の銀貨vol.28
The Scream Horror Show vol.13

M

The Scream Horror Show vol.13

M's explanation [1]
I am laughing
HERE I am seething with anger
You know WHERE. Why, (that’s what) you do not know, ne?
So, you're feeling extremely well? [2]
They won’t let me say, that the worst is if you are utterly plump [3]
I will kindly pat your head with trembling fingers
You are a piglet. Piglet, listen to me
Even if you die, even if you cry * * * occasionally, I notice [4]
You had a child conceived by a greasy OLD MAN [5]
You are a BITCH who tends to dream. If you’re done gaining weight [6]
I will knock you down to the deep reality with deep deep interest [7]
Surely, there … is hell
While laughing while laughing while laughing
M

Notes, explanations, interpretations:
[0] This text has a quite negative touch. It is written in an undertone of deliberate provocation and petulance. Haiiro no Ginka vol.28 was published after Dir en grey had their first overseas concerts in Germany and France in 2005. Maybe, Kyo refers to the experiences or impressions he made while being in Europe for the first time (concert-wise). Maybe not... You never know...

[1] 解釈 kaishaku has two different meanings: "interpretation" and "explanation". The more common one is "interpretation", but I think that "explanation" fits better here.

[2] If you translate それで気分は最高か sore de kibun ha saikou ka by heart, it's something like "So, is the feeling/ mood the best/ at it's highest?". But taking the provocative undertone of the whole text into consideration, it's most probably meant to be like "So, you're feeling extremely well?" and further "Then I'm going to make sure that you're feeling like shit soon". (The last sentence isn't written in the original text by Kyo. It's just my interpretation).

[3] In order to stick to the original text, I decided to translate 絶対に丸々太った zettai ni marumaru futotta by heart as "utterly plump/ chubby". 丸々太った marumaru futotta means "plump" or "chubby", while 太った futotta on it's own (without marumaru) can be translated as "fat". However, 絶対に zettai ni means "totally", "absolutely" or "extremely". So, you can read it as "extremely fat" as well, which matches the text's mood better, I guess.

[4] The Kanji 死 shi in 死んでも shindemo (meaning "if you die") is written back-to-front in the original text. Moreover, it's not possible to read the characters between 泣いても naitemo and 気付いた kizuita due to splashes of white colour. But it's defintely another verb linked with a conditional clause (ても-clause)... So, the whole sentence would be something along the lines "Even if you die, even if you cry, even if you (insert missing verb here), in some cases/ occasionally, I notice".

[5] オヤジ oyaji is translated as "old man" here. I am aware that it can mean "father" as well, but usually it's a term that only men use to address their fathers. Furthermore, I couldn't find any indication for incest in this text, which is why I decided to translate it as "old man".

[6] ババ baba actually means "old woman". But taking the overall content and the already mentioned provocative undertone into account, it's obvious that the term is meant in it's derogatory sense. So, ババァ babaa is translated to "bitch", though "hag" or "old frump" would do as well...

[7] Again, in order to stick to the Japanese original, I decided to translate 深い fukai as "deep" - the most common translation. So, 深い深い興味 fukai fukai kyoumi is "deep deep interest", while 深い現実に fukai genjitsu ni turns to "to the deep reality". But, of course, 深い fukai has a bunch of other meanings as well, such as "strong", "unfathomed" or "heavy". That is why 深い現実に叩き落としてやる fukai genjitsu ni tataki otoshite yaru ("I will knock you down to the deep reality") could be interpreted as "I will break the ugly truth to you"...
