The Veronica Mars thing was today.
All of the emails I received about it stated that it was at 8pm, and yet when Sharon and I get there, we see a bunch of people wearing blue wristbands. These wristbands meant that you were entitled to a free gift bag which included a Season 1 DVD set, soundtrack, a mug from the local radio station, et cetera et cetera, and it turns out that they were given out at SEVEN. Garbage! Naturally we're pretty upset about this, but we still hang around to see the cast and to hear the Perishers. Right before they went on, we spotted Jason Dohring (Logan on VM) surrounded by about six girls, all gushing and taking photos. The poor boy looked really uncomfortable and finally retreated inside the theater at his publicist's insistence. Hah. I would have done the same.
The Perishers come on, and half way into the first song, I see someone who looks a lot like
Rob Thomas, creator of VM. I stood where I was for 20 minutes, deliberating over whether or not I should ask him if he was in fact who I thought he was, and then I get my answer when I see more fangirls ask for his autograph. Once they all go away, I go up and introduce myself and tell him about how I love the show, blah blah blah. He probably hears the same thing from everyone he meets, but he was really nice nonetheless. I asked him about the writing process and how VM was doing in the ratings, and he said that it was doing pretty good for UPN's standards. Thank god. I asked if having America's Next Top Model as a lead-in was helping, and he said it was, much more so than Eve, the lead-in last year. I told him that I even watched the last 10 minutes of Eve every week to ensure that I would not miss VM. That's dedication, making it through that crap. So yeah, he was really nice and humble, and he answered all of my silly questions. He even endured an awkward handshake with me, as I stuck out my hand but then withdrew it when he did not put his forward, and then stuck it out again when he finally caught on to what I was trying to do. I'm just a bumbling doof, I know.
But dude, I met Rob Thomas! (And not the Matchbox 20 guy, thank you very much.) I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.
After the Perishers' set, the cast (minus Enrico Colantoni, which made me sad, because I love Keith Mars!) came out. Kristen Bell looked gorgeous, naturally, and all of the girls in the audience whooped it up at all guys. Teddy Dunn is kind of goofy, and Percy Daggs III is all kinds of awesome, but all of that was pretty much common knowledge. Not much else to report as we didn't stay to get autographs, BEING THAT WE DIDN'T GET ANY CDS OR DVDS FOR THE CAST TO SIGN. The thing that pisses me off the most is that you could tell that there were people who did get free swag who didn't give a shit about the show. You could just about see the little thought bubbles above their heads as they tried to calculate how much money they could make once they put up their autographed stuff on ebay. Mope, mope, mope. Oh well. I guess I can always ask for the dvd for Christmas.
Once more for what it's worth: I talked to Rob Thomas! Okay, I'm good.
For all of you who don't know what it is I'm talking about, I urge you to
watch the show. It's so good, you won't regret it.
