a fortnight of living dangerously

It occurred to me that I never got around to posting my Louisiana photos. I should probably rectify that now, shouldn't I?

Swamp Tour

One of the many trees that was uprooted by Hurricane Katrina.

My cousin Emily. This was the best smile she could give me because she was very hot and tired during the entire boat ride.

I've come to the conclusion that alligators are very beautiful creatures. How can you say no to that face?

Downtown New Orleans

I didn't take very many pictures downtown because I didn't want it to be obvious that I was a tourist. So instead of photos of the historical buildings or Bourbon Street, you get random shit like this!

Saw this in a shop on Canal Street, and it of course reminded me of zombres.

Baking (of course!)

I had my cousins fill the liners while I was making the frosting, which explains why things are a bit, um, messy here.

Jeannie and Emily. Jeannie loves shopping and HGTV, which explains why she uses words like 'distressed' and 'antique-y.' Emily likes the color pink and getting her way. She'll also pack 10 pairs of underwear for a 2-day trip.

They went a bit mad with the sprinkles. STILL, NOM NOM NOM.

Houston

The Butterfly Center at the Houston Museum of Natural History is this open space where butterflies and moths are free to roam throughout the building. This butterfly happened to land on Emily's head.

BEES?!

A bit Burton-esque, no?

I goaded my cousins into standing in front of this because it reminded me of J.J. Abrams and his affinity for red spheres. Stupid flash would not cooperate, however.

This seemed like something that deadduck008 would appreciate.

Ice skating rink at The Galleria mall.

This was taken shortly before Emily gave up skating altogether because she couldn't keep her balance on the ice. And her pants were getting pretty wet, too. Maybe she was on to something when she packed all of those pairs of underwear...

Shuttle at NASA Johnson Space Center, which I found a bit disappointing because it seemed more like an amusement park that just happened to have some space artifacts on the side.

I have to admit, these were pretty sweet to see. There were also people dressed like Darth Vader and a stormtrooper, but I didn't take any photos of/with them because the line was ridiculously long.

And finally...

Pretty impressive if I say so myself.
