my love, I am the speed of sound

In this NPR segment with Neko Case, she talks about how she often gets ideas for songs when she's doing something mundane like washing dishes or taking a shower. She says that it's because they're routine tasks that your body knows how to carry out without having to think about them, which then helps to free your subconscious and unearth ideas that would otherwise remain hidden within.

This makes so much sense to me because the more I think about it, the more I realize that I'm the same way. Thoughts and ideas will occur to me out of the blue while I'm scrubbing a plate or lathering my hair, stuff that I'll later end up incorporating into a paper or drawing, or even into an entry. Why that is, though, never occurred to me before until now.

Oh, Neko, why are you so smart and observant and beautiful and talented?
