Stop being green and just responsible.

So, I added the "I am Green" application to my Facebook today to see how "environmentally responsible" I am, according to Facebook, anyway.

First of all, let me say that I hate hate HATE the term "being green". I think it's stupid that in order to consider yourself environmentally responsible, you have to label yourself green; and in most cases, be very condescending to those who don't consider themselves green.

So, after reading the comments some people left, it really made me think...and then it made me angry. So what if I can't locally source a meal a week in my cooking? And how is having more than one child environmentally irresponsible? ESPECIALLY if you teach those children to be responsible, too? That's what I mean by people being condescending...you don't have to berate me to get me to be more responsible.

Being environmentally responsible is our job...it's the first job God ever gave mankind. It's not something that we should do because it's popular, or because some celebrity or political party told us that it was a good idea. Have I been reading more on what I can do to be more responsible? Yes. Are there things I'm changing to become even more responsible? Of course! But I'm not going to be made to feel like I'm a terrible person because I still drive a car that gets less than 40 mpg, or because I shop at Wal-Mart, or because I want to have more than one child (and adopt more than one child), or because I HAVE A YARD. WTF?!! If I don't have a yard, my plethora of children will have no where to play. =)

I know that some people are just crazy. Some of the comments I read on that app really made me remember how crazy some people are. And I wish that people would pull their heads out of their self-righteous bungholes to see that we can all do our part, and no one has to make anyone else feel bad if they choose not to locally source all their produce or whatever. Because even if the person believes they are telling you for the good of the planet, they don't know about all of the other RESPONSIBLE things you do.

So keep being responsible in the ways you feel you can, and stop trying to be green.
