Warning: First ever attempt at romance.
“June, your laying on my feet.” Jack said.
June was visiting for the weekend and they'd fallen asleep watching movies on the floor.
Jack's sofa had recently caught fire when his cat got a hold of those 'light anywhere' matches, his cat lived but his fake leather sofa was having a shower with the local firemen, curtsy of his neighbour 'Lance' a total douche, he ran over his cat.
June rocked from side to side to gather momentum and then rolled up Jack's legs.
“June, you’re on my legs.”
June shuffled further up till she was lying on his lap.
“I need to get up June.”
“There's no work today.” June said somewhere near the floor where her head lay.
“No, but there was much consumption of liquid last night.”
“Oh.” June said and lifted herself up so that Jack could just wriggle out.
“Oh is right, I'll be back.” Jack said and left for the necessity.
June shifted and looked at his retreating form. She'd had a crush on him since they first meet one rainy 'inside' day at intermediate.
Back then there was still no real big boundary between boys and girls. They had lunch and played some cards, he had her at 'go fish'.
June smiled at the thought of so many years ago, then frowned, it had been sixteen years since then, he was thirty, she was twenty-nine, she had always thought that he felt the same way towards her as she did for him so she just figured that he'd ask her out one day.
At the age of seventeen she had found out he was dating a girl named 'Carly', Carly was a soon to be ex after only a month.
June wasn't a big fan of Carly if only for the fact that she had been with Jack and she wasn't, but she had to know why he asked her out, Carly had laughed and said that she had to ask him out, June had blinked, that wasn't how it worked, girls didn't ask boys out.
June had learned the following year that he liked to be chased after instead of doing the chasing.
June had asked her parents about this oddity, at first they had just looked at each other, then came 'the talk' she'll never forget it, mainly because it scared her for life, but also because it was so interesting, and in later life mildly disturbed her that her parents knew so much about that subject.
June had been 'chasing' after Jack for a few mouths with no progress; June went to the largest source of knowledge on the subject she knew, her parents.
June recalled some of her past conversations with her parents and felt her cheeks heat, they were very informative.
Jack wandered back into the room looking far more relaxed then when he'd left, he sat on the floor and smiled at her, obviously wanting to get back under her. She'd have liked that, except now she had a necessity too. She smiled, more to herself then to him, and lifted herself up, after he had wiggled under her, then she got up and walked down the hall.
June sat in her favourite cafe, it was Wednesday her day off and she often spent in PFC reading and drinking hot or iced coffee, the owner Javal sometimes joined her on slow days as most Wednesdays were.
Javal was a good friend, he often gave her rare and interesting yet odd books to read, she's once asked where he got them, he'd just said that his friend Dal ran a library out of town.
Javal looked up when the bell above the door jingled.
“Excuse me.”
Javal got up and moved the counter.
“Can I help you Sir?”
“Passion fruit sundae please.”
June stopped reading and furrowed her brow, she could have sworn that voice was- she looked up in time to see Jack move into Javal's recently vacated seat.
“Hey.” he said.
June stared at him.
“Don't you have work today?” June said. she was sure Jack worked Monday to Friday.
“My boss gave me the afternoon off for some important personal business.”
“Are you okay?”
Jack nodded and was about to say something when Javal brought over his sundae.
“Thank you.” Jack said.
Jack ate a spoonful, hummed and breathed deeply.
“Will you go out with me?” he said.
June looked at him stunned her mouth hanging open.
A minute of silence later Jack nodded and looked down at his sundae.
“No.” he said answering for her.
“Yes.” June whispered.
Jack's head snapped up, he could see tears running down June's face.
“June.” he started and scooted his chair around the table.
“June?” he said and put a hand on her shoulder.
“Yes.” she said a fraction louder.
June's thoughts seemed to be replaced by white noise and drowned out her senses.
Her lunge and their fall to the floor was only seen and heard by Javal but their kiss was only their own.
June rapped her arms around Jack and kissed him, sweet and bitter flooded their mouths, iced coffee and passion fruit mixed with their tongues and renewed with each gasp for air.
