I Do A Lot Of Writing Down Fic Ideas Instead Of Actually Writing Fanfiction.

pict demanded to know all my ambitious fic ideas, which reminded me of something I've been thinking about doing for a while: archiving the fic ideas I've been scribbling down in my diaries.

Every year, I buy the same style of diary, which has a couple of blank pages at the back. I've been using these blank pages to note down fic concepts since 2013. Some of these get written! Many of them don't.

If I type up the unwritten concepts, maybe one of them will inspire me? (Or indeed inspire someone else? Feel free to let me know if you're interested in writing any of these!) At the very least, they'll no longer be languishing in old diaries I rarely look back at.

These are sorted in alphabetical order by fandom; the notes under any particular fandom may contain spoilers for the canon. Some ideas are extremely vague; some are very specific. Crossovers are filed haphazardly under whichever fandom feels right in the moment. The tags on this entry should give you an idea of which fandoms are represented, if you're wondering whether anything you know is in here!


13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

- trapped in the ruined world after Operation Aegis.

Ace Attorney

- Spirit of Justice: Phoenix loses a case in Khura'in and is sentenced to death. Apollo and Athena take it upon themselves to break him out.

AI: The Somnium Files

- what follows the Annihilation ending? There's not much left, but Mizuki is still alive.

Assassin's Creed

- Altaïr becoming aware of Desmond's presence and the two of them having a conversation in the Animus space. I don't care if it makes no sense.

- something about Desmond Miles slowly losing his mind to the Bleeding Effect of the Animus. Lucy (perhaps with the others?) catches him speaking to the statue of Altaïr in the Sanctuary?

- Lucy, Shaun and Rebecca drifting into a weird three-way relationship while Desmond is in the Animus during Brotherhood (I'm half-sure this is actually canon).

- me hanging out with Shaun Hastings (this is, after all, canon as of Black Flag).

Bravely Default series

- Bravely Default: Edea/Tiz/Agnès/Ringabel OT4, with Tiz becoming increasingly flustered as he realises he's in love with everyone and he seems to be in a four-way relationship what's happening???, Agnès sharing in his confusion, and Edea and Ringabel being entirely comfortable with this state of affairs.

- Bravely Default: scenes from Edea, Tiz, Agnès and Ringabel ill-advisedly living together. Possibly in the format 'extract from the list of house rules, followed by a scene showing how that rule came to be added'.

- Bravely Default II: OT4? Adelle surprises everyone by being the one who's most weirded out by the prospect.

Community

- Community/Animorphs crossover, in which the study group is given the morphing power to fight the Yeerks. There is no way this is anything other than an amazing idea.

- Community/Utena: Jeff at Ohtori Academy. Meets Akio, goes 'wow, so much better than the dean', gets banged.

Danganronpa series

- The first fic concept I ever wrote down in the back of one of my diaries, back in 2013, was 'horrible Naegi/Mukuro dubcon WOW WE'RE OFF TO A GREAT START'.

- Project Naegi/everyone? Project Hinata/everyone? I sort of want to say 'project everyone/everyone', but I wouldn't like to imagine how many ficlets that would entail.

- Danganronpa: Naegi and Asahina cuddle. This is important. They snuggle up and fall asleep.

- Danganronpa/Danganronpa 2: you originally thought that the games in Danganronpa and Danganronpa 2 might be running concurrently. What if they are? At some point during Danganronpa 2, the Hope's Peak door opens and the very confused survivors of the first game emerge. Fukawa is petrified when she first sets eyes on Kuzuryuu because he is a prime Genocider Syo target.

- Danganronpa/Danganronpa 2: something about the Remnants of Despair in the first-game survivors' care? Glimpses of something that makes the survivors think they could be rehabilitated? Do they remember the first game's students from school at all?

- Danganronpa/Danganronpa 2: something about the two classes' time at school together?

- Danganronpa/Danganronpa 2: something about Mahiru Koizumi and Mukuro Ikusaba interacting? Both members of Ultimate Despair, both struggling with doubts? Koizumi is aware that the old her would have been horrified by her actions and it bothers her that she can't place what's changed. But of course she can't be remorseless - the things you destroy have to be things you value, or where's the despair? (Elements of this found their way into Flashbulb, although Ikusaba doesn't appear in it.)

- Danganronpa/Danganronpa 3: Mondo and Sakakura find some common ground as guys who are good at being gay and punching things and bad at just about everything else.

- Danganronpa 2: Junko seducing each of the Danganronpa 2 students into despair.

- Danganronpa 2: long-overdue Hinata/Kuzuryuu or Hinata/Koizumi; I've shipped both of these for years and never actually written them!

Dark Pictures Anthology

- Man of Medan: 'haunted by other timelines' fic, opening with Alex's quote about how Brad always told him about parallel universes. 'He had this thing where... if I was ever upset or disappointed, he would tell me this crazy bullshit about all the different parallel realities that could potentially exist, and how no matter what, no matter how bad things seemed, there were always at least a couple other realities where things were probably even worse. Well, you were right, little bro. You were fucking right.'

Death Note

- Light is haunted by L.

Detroit: Become Human

- something to do with the possibility of Hank shooting Connor. I don't know what. Being haunted by multiple timelines? (This is very much a recurring theme in my fic concepts.)

- Connor is killed while accessing another android's memories (Kara? Markus?), and that android is uploaded into his next body with him.

Exit/Corners

- Rae/Aether? Rae and Aether's relationship is more interesting than I remembered; Rae seems to tolerate her better than he does most of the others, although he's still Rae about it. Half-tempted to attempt a fic where Rae/Aether happens and throws all of the plans for Exit/Corners off track.

Final Fantasy VII

- Zack and Cloud on the run.

Final Fantasy VIII

- Final Fantasy VIII/Final Fantasy XIII: a series of one-shots set after With These Signs Upon Our Souls, about different combinations of VIII and XIII characters interacting? Squall and Lightning? Seifer and Fang? Snow and Zell? Selphie, Sazh and Vanille? Snow and Rinoa? Everyone!

- Final Fantasy VIII/Final Fantasy XV: Prompto and Zell meet and possibly commiserate over having a crush on everyone.

- Squall and Zell, isolated together in Time Compression.

- something about Squall and Seifer's complicated relationship?

Final Fantasy XIII series

- Final Fantasy XIII-2: Noel and Serah are in the habit of platonically sleeping cuddled up. Possibly Hope discovers this and is confused.

Final Fantasy XV

- Final Fantasy XV/Danganronpa V3 Hotel Kumasutra AU (oh dear). Ardyn probably gives Noct the Key of Love equivalent with some cryptic words about how it will unlock the hearts of those closest to him, expose their fantasies.
Gladio: being physically dominated by someone more powerful than him.
Prompto: being approached by someone all 'I love your photography, I'd really like to be friends'?
Ignis: advising and chiding Noctis, exactly as usual. Noct is unsettled.
Ardyn: oh dear.

Forgotton Anne

- Anne doesn't immediately crystallise on giving up the Arca, although she expects to.

Free!

- Haru/water, obviously.

- Rin/Nitori? It'd probably be unrequited. I just think Nitori's crush is pretty cute.

Gargoyles

- Elisa/Xanatos. You probably won't write this, but I really feel there should be more of it; they seem like they'd have interesting potential!

Gravity Falls

- Stan's memories don't come back. Dipper and Mabel move to Gravity Falls to help him rebuild himself as a person.

- Gravity Falls/Life Is Strange crossover of some sort? They're both set in Oregon! (You probably need more of a concept than that.)

Harry Potter

- Harry tries to talk to his father through the Marauder's Map. (I noted this concept down many years ago and I still like it, but I'd feel weird about writing Harry Potter fanfiction now. I grew up with the Harry Potter series and it's important to me, but Rowling's shown a willingness to support causes that hurt people I care about; I don't want to risk contributing to that by advertising her books through fanfiction.)

Horizon: Zero Dawn

- the Zero Dawn team live out their lives in the bunker, increasingly losing their minds.

- Aloy goes 'Old Ones technology is really cool and interesting' and Nil goes 'not as cool and interesting as MURDER' and Aloy goes 'why do I even talk to you?'

House

- Wilson and Cameron have extremely ill-advised guilty sex.

Inside Out

- Riley meets her emotions somehow (in her dreams?).

Kingdom Hearts series

- Sora finds out Riku is in love with him and is so perplexed! Is that... possible? He thinks about it for two days and realises he's absolutely in love with Riku as well.

- Birth by Sleep: Terra/Cinderella. You probably won't write this. I don't imagine you'll write Aqua/Zack either.

- Birth by Sleep/Utena: Aqua meeting Utena! Utena would be awestruck.

- Re:Coded: something about Data-Sora realising he isn't real. Assuming he doesn't know from the start, I think the first indication he has of it must be when he bursts in on Mickey and co. and Data-Riku turns up: 'Much like Sora there, I'm just zeroes and ones that look like somebody you know.'

- Kingdom Hearts III: something about this weird world created solely to make Andy's toys suffer! Does no one else exist in that world? It would explain the lack of cars driving down the road.

- Kingdom Hearts III: Sora interacts with Elsa and Anna after the resolution of the Frozen world.

- Kingdom Hearts III: Sora befriends Prince Hans in the Frozen world and is so betrayed.

The Last of Us

- Ellie/Riley? Something about echoes/remnants of the old world, maybe?

- incredibly ill-advised Last of Us/Pokémon crossover.

Life Is Strange series

- Life Is Strange: Max has always been indecisive, and she avoids making the final choice by keeping the butterfly photo - she keeps going back and changing the future so she lives one week in one timeline, the next in the other, etc. Maybe the versions of her that are left behind to live out the week in her 'absence' start leaving messages.

- Life Is Strange/Life Is Strange 2: Sean could end up in the same prison as the villain of the first game. I'm not sure what to do with that. Fic about the people he meets inside, visitors and the first game's villain?

- stupid Life Is Strange: True Colors idea: Ryan thinks Alex is into Steph, Steph thinks Alex is into Ryan, they both try to support/matchmake, they both pick up on what the other is trying to do and go 'what the fuck are you doing', turns out Alex is into both of them.

- Life Is Strange: True Colors, Alex and Ryan: secrets and terrible shared experiences bonding them together so closely it feels claustrophobic.

- Life Is Strange: True Colors: Alex loses her power (maybe the intense emotions at the end of episode one somehow short it out?) and has to deal with the uncertainty and paranoia of not knowing what people are thinking or feeling.

- Life Is Strange: True Colors: Alex starts broadcasting her own emotions instead of absorbing other people's.

Lucifer

- Lucifer/everyone? He does seem to lend himself to it.

Milo Murphy's Law

- ill-advised Supernatural/Milo Murphy's Law crossover: the Winchesters go to Danville to investigate why so many accidents/disasters happen there.

Oxenfree

- something set post-game, where the lines between timelines become blurred and Alex isn't sure which life she's living?

Persona

- Persona 3 love hotel fic? (Mitsuru and Akihiko's experience? NB: this would probably be mutual dubcon.) Your mind starts to clear, you try not to let it, you don't want to stop, you don't want to have to actually think about this, you don't want to face consequences-

- Persona 3/4: having returned to their time after Persona Q (and retained their memories somehow), the Persona 4 cast look up their new friends online, are distressed to discover what happened to some of them, reconnect with the survivors.

- Persona 4: something inspired by Silent Hill a) feels apt, given Persona 4's use of static and fog, and b) would probably provide a great opportunity to psychologically destroy Yosuke.

- Persona 4/Final Fantasy XV: can you make Yosuke and Prompto meet? (Should you?)

Pokémon

- Let's Go, Eevee!: weird relationship of respect between Giovanni and the protagonist.

Red Dead Redemption series

- Red Dead Redemption II: something about all the people Arthur's loved. Dutch/Hosea (fathers), Mary, Abigail, Charlotte (an impossible dream), John (redemption, a future - for one of them, at least).

Sense8

- OT8, maybe from an outside point of view? (Will's partner?)

- Sense8/Final Fantasy XIII: the Final Fantasy XIII central cast as sensates.

Silent Hill series

- Silent Hill: something dealing with the potential time loop?

- Silent Hill/Silent Hill 2: Harry remains in Silent Hill after the bad ending, a broken man. James finds him there.

- Silent Hill 2: Maria breaks her programming, claims her own agency somehow. She's aware that caring about James is part of her programming, but at least she can genuinely be on his side; she can fight against her role as a tool to make him suffer.

- Silent Hill 3: something uncomfortably tinged with Heather/Vincent.

Supernatural

- Something about Dean and possibly Sam offering some sort of post-episode support to the 'wolf' in 'Bedtime Stories'? The poor guy's just come back to himself to find some dude trying to gut him with scissors and multiple murders on his head. Maybe a 'five times' fic following up on some other one-off characters? The Dean fangirl from 'Nightshifter'?

- Dean runs into Bela in Hell, maybe when Hell's doing that thing where it turns into Silent Hill (because of course Hell is Silent Hill at least some of the time, and the psychological torture is so much more interesting than the physical torture side). They immediately set about driving each other crazy and in so doing, paradoxically, help to keep each other sane.

- Sam and Dean dealing with memories from the other timeline after 'My Heart Will Go On'. Sharing memories of hunting with Ellen and Jo and Bobby as a family, trying to cling on to them. Or, rather, Sam wants to share and Dean wants to never talk about it again, because that's how they operate.

Tales of the Abyss

- Guy gradually coming to care about Luke.

- Jade flirting unsettlingly with a puzzled Guy.

Umineko: When They Cry

- something about Battler and Ange, in an AU where she can survive him learning her identity in episode four? Or some interaction between them before he learns her identity?

- Umineko/Higurashi: Battler in Hinamizawa? (Possibly timeline-compliant?)

- the Battler-and-Ange reunion of the true ending in your heart.

- Umineko as a time loop Battler gradually becomes aware of?

- Meta Battler and Piece Battler interact.

Uncharted

- Uncharted: Lost Legacy: horrible, destructive Nadine/Asav (you shouldn't write this).

Undertale

- Undertale: something to do with mistakes that can't be undone, efforts to atone when you've gone too far and the value in that? You can't save the others after you've sold your soul; does that mean you can't do anything? You could at least start the game, help everyone and never finish, if you earnestly regretted causing that harm. Might be hard to write as a fic.

- some sort of Gaster/Alphys fic set in
zarla's Handplates AU?

Until Dawn

- Matt and Jess make it out of the mines too late for the helicopter to spot them - or maybe it's just that the helicopter doesn't see them over there. They see the lodge explode as they're making their way towards it? Anyway, they end up stranded up there, no key for the cable car, the lodge burning.

Uprooted

- Nieshka meets the girl the Dragon held before her.

Your Turn to Die

- Sara receives the memories of her AI self from virtual runs, sees how ruthless she is without Joe.

Wayfarers series

- The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet: Lovelace stays on the ship after the hard reset, and everyone has to deal with grieving a friend who, in a sense, is still there.

What Would You Do?

- Jeremy the actor in hidden camera series What Would You Do? is creepily seduced by the unpleasant character he plays (DO NOT WRITE THIS).

Zero Escape

- Zero Time Dilemma: Sigma and Diana 'transport' and meet themselves in another timeline.

I'm not sure this exercise has actually sparked any inspiration, but it's good to have all these ideas in one place. If any of these would particularly interest you, let me know!
