I've Built Up A Decade's Worth Of Rambling Energy In Preparation For This Game.

Jan 30, 2019 22:18

I said in my last entry that I probably wouldn't continue making world-by-world entries on Kingdom Hearts III. If this entry is anything to go by, they might actually end up being more frequent; I'm only halfway through my third world.

Note that my third world is not necessarily your third world, because, er, I accidentally flew to the wrong place. I'm in the world with the dandelion enemies.

The opening menu screen is Sora eating a paopu by himself. Does that mean he's... sharing it... with Roxas? That would make a sort of sense; Sora's very much been focused on Roxas for the game so far.

Merlin put Kairi and Lea in 'a place where time doesn't matter', so they can take as long as they need to complete their Keyblade training. Isolated from the world together, for an unknown span of time. Don't ship this. Don't ship this. Don't ship this, Riona.

'I'll admit I was a little scared of him at first, but I've gotten to know him better.' DON'T

'Every now and then, I catch him staring at me.' OKAY, I CANNOT BE EXPECTED NOT TO SHIP KAIRI AND LEA UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES.

(!!! he's staring at her because she reminds him of Xion and he can't work out what's bugging him, my heart)

Kairi writing 'there's no heart your smile can't reach' to Sora, in a letter she's never planning to send, is very cute.

LEA GOT HER SEA SALT ICE CREAM, OH MY GOD

HE KEEPS WATCHING HER AND THEN GETTING FLUSTERED WHEN SHE CALLS HIM OUT ON IT

I'M ABSOLUTELY SHIPPING THIS STUPID PAIRING, I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN, I SENSED DANGER FROM THE TRAILERS

He's crying over Xion and doesn't know why and Kairi is anxious about him! My heart!

And he asks Kairi to call him Axel. Because he's come to identify with that name more than the name he had when he was human? Or because Xion called him Axel, and he's trying to fill that void by pretending that Kairi is Xion? Either option is fascinating.

I'm so glad that Kingdom Hearts III remembers Xion, even if the characters don't.

I ACCIDENTALLY WENT TO THE TANGLED WORLD INSTEAD OF THE LOWER-LEVEL TOY STORY ONE

WHAT DO I DO

Tangled is a candidate for my favourite Disney film, so I find myself reluctant to leave. Maybe I'll roll with this for now and switch worlds if I find myself struggling with the combat.

The scene where Rapunzel has Flynn tied up is perhaps a little too faithful to the film. I'm not here to watch Tangled! I love Tangled, but I'm here to see weird Tangled crossover fanfiction, not Tangled itself. (This problem has since arisen a couple of other times in this world. It's incredibly impressive that the game can replicate these scenes from the film, but you don't need to replicate them; you could do something new!)

Sora getting emotional about his friendship with Donald and Goofy and then getting embarrassed and trying to undercut it with 'yeah, it's been unforgettable, JUST LIKE YOUR FACE' is adorable.

Rapunzel/Flynn is my eternal Disney OTP and I'm delighted that they're both joining our party.

This game feels like it's taking a fair bit of inspiration from Final Fantasy XV: recipes, photographs, party conversations while you're running around. I have absolutely no complaints about this.

'I can't get over those chiseled muscles, kupo.'

At one point a character said 'Sora, Goofy and Donald' instead of 'Sora, Donald and Goofy' and I didn't know what to do with myself.

disney animated canon, kingdom hearts
