Embrace The Darkness.
My housemates have never played any games in the Kingdom Hearts series, but they recently got into an ongoing Let's Play, and it's been a lot of fun to watch their reactions to all the nonsense and innuendo. 'I already took my pounding from Sora,' Axel says at one point. Rei shrieked with laughter for two minutes.
Also pretty striking: Ansem saying, 'You called out my name. You have been thinking about me,' to Riku. ('Why do you accept the darkness but still refuse me?' he demands later.) Every villain in the Kingdom Hearts series is just flirting non-stop with Riku, and so is Mickey Mouse. It's disconcerting.
(Ginger can't stop laughing whenever Mickey appears. 'You're just never expecting Mickey Mouse!')
The Let's Play series has just reached Kingdom Hearts II, which is going to be great fun, because this is where the games stop even pretending to make sense. My housemates had strong reactions to 'Our ______ are gone!' and the fact that Seifer occasionally yells 'Isn't this ROMANTIC?' when he's fighting you.
Unfortunately, reaching Kingdom Hearts II also means I'm once again going to have my heart broken by the prologue, which gets more upsetting every time I experience it. Roxas, you poor kid. All he ever wanted was to spend time with his friends.
(I know I go 'why do I never write Kingdom Hearts fanfiction?' whenever I revisit this series, but, seriously, why do I never write Kingdom Hearts fanfiction? The prologue of Kingdom Hearts II is so entirely up my writing street. Characters not knowing what's real! Characters haunted by memories that belong to other people!)
I started a replay of Final Fantasy XIII-2 a couple of days ago, on an odd whim, and Ginger walked in while I was playing it.
Ginger: ...what is that little floating creature behind you?
Riona: Oh, he's my weapon.
Ginger: Um?
(Battle! My sword visibly turns back into Mog at the end.)
Ginger: Ummmm?
Riona: He doesn't just turn into a sword; he turns into a sword that turns into a bow.
Ginger: Okay, now I see where Kingdom Hearts gets it from.
I'm really, really hoping to see some Final Fantasy XIII characters in Kingdom Hearts III. They'll have Lightning at least, surely? There's no way they won't have Lightning. Also hoping for Balthier, Fran and the XV boys. Prompto and Sora would get along incredibly.
