I have now finished the first series of Glee!
MR SCHUESTER HOW CAN YOU THINK SLASHING THE TYRES OF THE OPPONENTS' CARS IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DEFENDED
SERIOUSLY HOW IS THAT ACCEPTABLE
'It was a harmless prank!' Protesting that paying for the damages will bankrupt the club! Seriously, are we as viewers expected to take Mr Schuester's side here? We as viewers may have become invested in the McKinley glee club, and we may be fond of the characters involved in it, but that doesn't mean we'll think 'man, these people demanding compensation for the tyres the glee club slashed are being so unreasonable'.
In fact, Mr Schuester is generally a git in this episode. I suppose he's under a lot of stress post-divorce, but I expected better of you, Will.
I lost some respect for Mr Schuester in 'Funk', but what the episode did help me realise was just how much I'd misjudged Puck. Despite his faults, he is a sincere member of the club, and if one of their own gets hurt he'll step in. (He may not always step in in the best way, but I don't hold him to the same behavourial standards as I do Mr Schuester, because Puck isn't in a position of responsibility.) I've had trouble getting past notions of Puck I actually formed from seeing mentions of him on Livejournal before watching Glee; as fannish osmosis also led me to believe that Sue Sylvester would be a hero and Emma a villain, you'd have thought I'd have learnt not to trust my preconceptions, but apparently not. Now that I'm starting to see Puck as the character he is, rather than the character I thought he was, I like him a lot more.
Actually, come to think of it, I think Puck may have been the character in 'Theatricality' who said 'can you fight all of us?' when the entire club came to defend Kurt. He's not the person he was at the beginning of the series, and I really haven't given him credit for that. It's just a shame that Glee has allowed his improvement to happen offscreen, rather than exploring it, because I think it would have been great to have had an episode or two in which we could see Puck's attitude changing.
(I don't think the below is really spoilery, but if you don't want to know minor details about the first-season finale I'd suggest you look away.)
All I really have to say about 'Journey' is 'did I write that final scene and then forget about it?'
Seriously. Ukulele. Kurt, Quinn and Mercedes all being adorable with each other. It was a scene made specifically for me. I love the Kurt/Mercedes and Mercedes/Quinn friendships and have been lamenting the fact that Kurt and Quinn don't really interact beyond frequently being paired up in dances, and all of a sudden three-way adorability. With my three favourite characters! Backed by ukulele music! Because the writers love me!
Kurt/Mercedes/Quinn is totally my nonsexual OT3 for Glee. I want them all to form a big cuddly pile and paint each other's nails. This should be the entire plot of the second season.
