I have started watching Revolutionary Girl Utena (up to the seventh episode), and I am enjoying it very much, but I am also tremendously confused. Did - did a shirtless guy really just punch out a kangaroo ( Read more... )

Utena is excellent. That and Sailor Moon are the two anime series that I love to this day.

If you want any of the Utena music(because...how could you not?) I made a site years ago with all the OSTs:

Oh, thank you so much! I'm very fond of the opening theme and the 'sunlit garden' piano piece, so this is fantastic.

Oh, goddamn, Anthy is my absolute favorite Utena character. If you're only at the kangaroo you're still way early on but believe me when I say Anthy ends up probably the best character in the entire series.

I'm rather loving Anthy already, so I am definitely looking forward to her getting even better!

I'm just going to add to the chorus of "RGU yesssss". Because. yesssss. I think all of the characters are superbly crafted, I keep trying to say 'I especially hope you like _____', but they're are all so fascinating and engaging that I'm sure it won't be a problem!

As it series, it'll only get better and better. I am delighted that you're enjoying it! :>

Well, I'm liking pretty much everyone already, so I foresee no immediate character-liking problems. (It gets even better? Hooray!)

:) Ah, Utena. Such a great show and manga. The manga and the show are radically different from one another, yet both are very very good. I definitely recommend you give the manga a whirl if you get the chance. :)

Ooh, thank you for the advice! I'll definitely give the manga a try if I come across it; I'm interested in seeing how it differs from the anime.

Yesyesyesyesyesyes! And all the women are strong and really messed up in their own unique ways! I LOVE that! And as Thorne once pointed out, all the character relationships are messed up in their own special ways!

Basically, SO GOOD and I am SO EXCITED that you're watching it and TOTALLY YES to what you said about Utena being boyish but not unfeminine!

Oh my gosh I need to rewatch the show right now.

I love how incredibly messed up the entire cast is. Messed-up characters are so much fun.

I love it so much when I get into something you like!

(EDIT: By the way, I've finished the eleventh episode and now my heart is in tiny pieces on the floor.)
