My Love's Gone And Burned Up All The Oxygen In The Room. (Thermodynamics!)

Oct 10, 2009 18:58

Last night, I dreamt that Arthur was being forced to kill Merlin. They were at a crossroads in the moonlight, Arthur holding a glass dagger, Merlin kneeling in front of him. Merlin wasn't restrained; he was willing to be killed by Arthur (possibly Arthur would have been the one to die otherwise ( Read more... )

Oh my god, I have 'Baba Yetu' on my iPod! Civ IV must be the only game I ever allow to go through the opening sequence without rapid presses of the escape key!

Civilization II is the only Civ game I've played (and it was rather fun when I got an add-on with a scenario editor; my favourite units were bright red slugs that exploded and made the entire area radioactive whenever they attacked anything), but I discovered that song yesterday, and it is incredibly lovely.

Oddly, I've not played Civ II. I've played the original, IV and Alpha Centauri (and the expansion pack Alien Crossfire) which is basically Civ IN SPACE but is great fun (the mindworms are pure Nightmare Fuel).

I was thinking about doing that music meme... I may have to upload Baba Yetu for it :)

ETA: Also, it just occured to me that if you've not played Civ IV you've probably not seen or heard this, which is the opening movie. The song is called 'Coronation' and is performed by the same group who did Baba Yetu - it's just as lovely :)

YES MERLIN OMG.

'come on, Arthur, you've had barely over an episode's worth of relationship development', and then I remembered that Lancelot/Gwen has had, er, even less than that.
THOSE WERE EXACTLY MY FEELINGS, EXCEPT I FORGOT TO REMEMBER THAT LANCELOT/GWEN HAD HAD EVEN LESS RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT UNTIL YOU MENTIONED IT. IN MY DEFENCE, THEY WERE TOO SCHMOO FOR BRAIN-USING-TIMES. <333

I was making WOEFACE over the fact that I know the whole thing is going to end in an epic angsty love triangle. I mean, I knew that anyway, but after this episode: NOOOO, BE ADORABLE HAPPY PUPPIES INSTEAD. Part of me wants to just shove Arthur at Merlin so Gwen and Lancelot can be happy together. The other part of me has settled on my usual solution to love triangles: threesomes! \o/ Arthur/Gwen/Lancelot pls!

Alternatively: OT5.

I was delighted that there was so much Merlin-and-Arthur interaction in this episode!Yes! :DDD Is it bad that probably my favouritest thing about Arthur/Gwen this episode was Merlin noticing it, and then needling at Arthur ( ... )

Your icon is so pretty! Morgana, how are you so perpetually gorgeous?

They were so schmoo. Man, and I was all prepared to be excited over Arthur and Gwen being adorable, and then Lancelot and Gwen were even adorabler and I am left mildly dissatisfied with the Arthur/Gwen. WOE. (I would be all for Arthur/Gwen/Lancelot, however.)

Is it bad that probably my favouritest thing about Arthur/Gwen this episode was Merlin noticing it, and then needling at Arthur until he confided in Merlin about his feelings?

That was lovely! (Oh, Merlin. You notice that, but you are entirely oblivious to Arthur's crush on you shut up it's canon if I say so.)

Morgana kicking arse with a sword was great! I have missed her sword-augmented arsekicking since 'The Moment of Truth', but NOW IT IS BACK HOORAY.

(I was also disappointed by the lack of Morgana getting involved in the rescuing-the-crap-out-of-Gwen-fest. Arthur and Lancelot both got to help! Why not Gwen's third love interest?)

I DON'T KNOW. It is my only Merlin icon so far. I couldn't resist going on a hunt for Morgana icons, so I could properly express my epic girlcrush by showing everyone her BEAUTIFULNESS whenever I talked about Merlin. <333

My feelings exactly! I guess the real reason that the Gwen/Lancelot relationship felt more developed than the Gwen/Arthur relationship is that Arthur has been around her pretty much every episode, yet only noticed her two episodes ago, whereas you get the feeling that if Lancelot had been around since he first arrived he would have spent most of that time staring longingly at Gwen with big, shiny eyes.

Oh, Merlin. You notice that, but you are entirely oblivious to Arthur's crush on you shut up it's canon if I say so.
Selective obliviousness is always adorable! Also: TOTALLY CANON.

Obviously Morgana doesn't need to run around proving how macho she is to win Gwen's love, because GWEN ALREADY LOVES HER BEST. (Pretend the rationalisations I am using to comfort myself about this make sense. Pretend!)

When Merlin said something about Arthur admitting his love, is it bad that my first thought was "lol gays"? well, alright, it was my second thought. my first thought was "merlin, you sound like such an idiot when you say things like that out loud."

That scene could totally have been Merlin saying 'You liiiiiiike meeeeee', couldn't it?

Your icon is a bit amazing.

That's totally how I saw it, haha.

Thankyou. fatherbananas made it. You should read her awesome screencap recap of the first episode.

Yeah, I expect much Arthur/Gwen/Lancelot conflict up ahead. No reason, just my psychic powers.

I also expect Mordred will be trouble, and there will be a plotline involving a very special sword. Again, psychic.

I read one fantasy-novel version of the Arthurian legend where Arthur, Guenevere, and Lancelot did try threesomes, and they inexplicably failed to solve everything. It was one of those heavy on the paganism ones, with Christianity as kind of a new, weird thing that people would adhere to so long as they could keep their sex ceremonies. I can't remember what it was.

YOU ARE TOO LATE; THE VERY SPECIAL SWORD PLOTLINE HAS ALREADY OCCURRED. Although I suppose it could return at some point. IT ENDED UP IN A LAKE, THOUGH; HOW COULD ANYONE POSSIBLY RETRIEVE IT?

???

IT IS A MYSTERY. CLEARLY WE SHALL NEVER SEE EXCALIBUR AGAIN.

Your description of this fantasy novel intrigues me. But not as much as the idea of Merlin fanfiction involving Arthur/Gwen/Lancelot threesomes. Does any exist? If not, I certainly hope people are busy writing it after that episode.

I SUSPECT EXCALIBUR SHALL RETURN! PSYCHIC POWERS LIKE THAT!!!

I can't remember the novel. And yes, there needs to be threesome fic. This is fandom! They're bound to be!

I suspect the novel may have been The Mists of Avalon, but I'm not sure. The Mists of Avalon did feature Arthur doing his sister under complicated and weird circumstances (pagan sex ceremonies were involved). It was all a bit mad.

Hopefully approaching our 100,000th follower. Big party round at mine. I want to get you all together ad stroke your hair.

Is it wrong that I'm now shipping Derren Brown/100,000 people? With him inviting them all to his house, hypnotizing them into thinking he's put their minds in a doll, and proceeding from hair-stroking to sweet, passionate love?

It's wrong, isn't it?

As I already 'ship Derren/everyone, I am entirely in favour of Derren Brown/100,000 people. I would read that fic, although it might be a little on the long side if it gave equal weight to every one of the 100,000.

But it is a bit wrong.
