Finally pulled together the courage to play more Metal Gear Solid! (Metal Gear Solid requires courage to play not because it is terrifying, like Shadow of the Colossus, but because I am so humiliatingly bad at it. I need to erect protective shields around my self-esteem before attempting this game ( Read more... )

I love the torture scene - Theoretically there are three ways for it to end - beat the torture, submit or die. But since there's nothing ever stopping you submitting, there's no real chance of death. So why have it there? Why not just have an automatic submit when the health runs out? Because the point is that you chose to press the button. If you can't beat the torture, it's not a case of you not being able to save Meryl, you chose to press the button, and put continuing with the game above Meryl's life ( ... )

That is actually completely awesome. HERE, PLAYER, HAVE A BIG PILE OF GUILT.

I keep forgetting to call people for hints! I think the problem is the sheer anti-logic of calling someone during a battle; I have trouble remembering that time freezes when you're using the Codec.

My goodness, that's certainly a creative tactic. I don't think 'get pissed on by huskies' has ever been a solution to a puzzle in Final Fantasy.

Well, there was a shot of Wolf's cleavage from directly above when Snake was strapped to the torture device and thus highly unlikely to be Spider-Manning it up on the ceiling, but for the most part the 'Snake's gaze' theory makes sense. Although it does render Psycho Mantis's 'you're different from all the worthless humans that are interested only in spreading their seed' speech even more confusing

I see how that could lead you to thinking asexuality, but I never thought of that. I think it might be a reference to something you're not aware of (since your interest is merely 'appropriate for a video game') and that I've forgotten about. I'm sure I'll replay the game soon (I'm never not about to replay metal gear solid. And Pokemon Red) and let you know if anything occurs to me.

Also; When the wolf pisses on you, there is steam. I don't know why that particular level or realism is important, but it is I'm not sure if they're wolves or huskies. Huskies makes more sense, but I've seen far more references to "the wolves" than "the huskies". It could just be a mistaken assumption because of the association with sniper wolf ( ... )

They are husky-wolf hybrids! Snake knows these things because he has been dog-sledding, apparently.

One time, a particular string of mathematical terms came out absolutely poeticly, so I pretended to have missed it and asked her to repeat.

Hee, I sort of love this. I often spend more time listening to the way my lecturers pronounce words than to the content of their speech. (I'm an English language student! I have an excuse! ...sort of!)

You have seriously shamed me. I think I might have to have a 'Final Mission'.

Also, MGS2 was designed to be more female-friendly. The lead character is much less Clint Eastwood (there's no more "Yeah, you've got a great butt"), and there's less cleavage inspection.

I have never felt more ambivalent about an image. On the one hand, that's Snake's ass. On the other, it's Snake's ass.

You have two Snake's-ass icons? I just friended you.

Ok, you have three of Snake's ass, one of Snake and Johnny's ass, and one of Snake's crotch. It's not the icons per se, it's the rather inappropriate level of dedication.

RIONA!!!! FIREFLY'S FILLING THE THREAD WITH PORN!!!!!

This will inevitably sound pervy, but where's that from? It looks like a cap from a game, but I don't seem to recall Meryl getting topless (naked?). And if I'd played it, I would recall it.
