HERE IS A MILDLY ALARMING FACT FOR YOU: I have come across about fifteen genderswap stories in the Top Gear fandom. I may have written one of them.

I think that 'RICHARD HAMMOND IS A WOMAN' has somehow become one of the fandom's injokes (along with 'Piers Morgan is a zombie' (the zombie section of the crackfic list has eight stories in it, and the only reason it isn't more is because sometimes the Zombie Piers Morgan fics fit into other categories) and 'Jonathan Ross writes terrible Jeremy/Richard fanfiction'), which may go some way towards explaining it. Clarkson and May occasionally retain their manhood in genderswap fics, but Hammond is always a woman. But goodness knows how 'RICHARD HAMMOND IS A WOMAN' originally came about.

(I am convinced that a female Richard Hammond would look like Anne Hathaway.)

For some reason, "Richard Hammond is a..." followed by practically anything tends to work. I mean there's "Richard Hammond is a woman"!, "Richard Hammond is a faun!", and serious discussion of both "Richard Hammond is an alien!" and "Richard Hammond is an owl!" being done as multiple fic by different people.

...it's my fault, isn't it? I am the "Pointlessly turning Richard Hammond into things," equivalent of you.

And I did do one fic where both Jeremy and James were genderswapped, and Richard wasn't.

what about 'Richard Hammond is a merman' and 'Richard Hammond is the Stig'? (he so isn't)

And you're the one who keeps making Richard into an owl.

And don't forget the 'Richard Hammond is a car' and 'Richard Hammond is a vampire' stories floating around. And the 'Richard Hammond is a vampire faun.' And... this is going to take all day, isn't it?

I contemplated 'Richard Hammond is the Stig', and may have done a ficlet version for some challenge, but there's the whole "Richard is noticeably shorter!" thing, and how they've been in the same place at the same time more than once. Which just makes it more interestingly challenging.

Owl-thing is totally my fault.

I've done "Richard Hammond is intermittently a car", and seen "Richard Hammond is a vampire." You're right; there is quite a lot.

Then of course there's 'Richard Hammond is a fairy Tale Prince' and 'Richard Hammond is a Fairy Tale Princess.'

And the entirely-my-fault "Richard Hammond is a lesbian couple."

Not a lot of people you can say that about. or any, actually...

Let's not forget 'Richard Hammond is a half squid' and 'Richard Hammond is a prostitute'.

I, of course, now wish to see 'Richard Hammond is an android' and 'Richard Hammond is a caveman' and Richard Hammond is a fairy tale fairy.' Because those would be awesome.

Clearly, you need to write all of those.

One of the challenges had several "Richard Hammond is a cyborg" ficlets. No one's done androids yet. You could do something where he's an android, and he assumes the Stig is a robot and tries to bond, but it is subsequently revealed that the Stig is not any kind of robot at all!

Because, obviously, the Stig is an alien.

'Richard stopped short when the piece of paper was shoved into his face. He took it from the driver and read it.

Why are you following me around?

Richard looked around conspiriatorally (sp?) and leaned in to whisper.

"I know your secret, Stig. I know you're like me."

Stig looked horrified. He grabbed the paper and scribbled down, 'You're an alien too?'

Richard looked confused. "No, mate, not an alien. An Android."

This was followed by a very awkward silence. It was Richard who broke it.

"Let's just uh... forget this conversation ever happened."

Agreed.

That's great!

I love the awkwardness afterwards.

Obviously he thought that he was bonding with another of his kind! Poor android Richard, he only wants a hug.
