Well, I haven't written in here much of late, other than about books I've read, I guess because I've been so busy at work and come home late and/or tired. But here are a few quick updates:
1. Cruise is booked as is the flight there and back. We'll fly into Fort Lauderdale as our friends are flying into there (they had no choice with their airline; with ours it's cheaper than Miami) and we'll share a shuttle to the hotel. Still need to book that hotel (our friends have). We will fly out of Tampa as we will drive from Miami to Sarasota to see my son, so I need to book the rental car and the hotel in Sarasota. Also need to check into long-term parking at or shuttles to DFW. And, because of Hurricane Dean damage, our call to Costa Maya has been changed to Cozumel. We'd picked but not yet booked shore excursions; just as well since we'd have to change some anyway. I'm hoping to get some of this stuff done over the next 4 days, because:
2. Tomorrow I am having a sub-epithelial connective tissue graft, often called just a connective tissue graft, CT graft, or CTG. They'll be taking some tissue from the roof of my mouth and grafting it onto my lower front gum where the gum has started to recede and expose a tooth root. I'm not having it done for appearance purposes (if anything I'll look worse for a couple weeks); I'm not in any pain; the tooth isn't even loose or sensitive, but I am having it done because I don't want to lose any teeth in the future! The periodontist called in a pain med prescription today that I picked up on the way home from work so I'll have it handy after the surgery. They recommend taking one right after I get home after the surgery, but they said that was all that some patients took. Full recovery is supposed to take two weeks with two follow-up visits during that time, and I can only eat soft foods during that period (hoping this will lead to some pre-cruise weight loss). Worst news: supposedly I will look like I dip for two weeks.
3. And wouldn't you know, yesterday I got invited by my alma mater to be on a library school panel at the TLA District 1 meeting in Abilene on Saturday. The TLA president (also an alum, but from about 30 years ago) is my back-up in case I don't feel up to going. I will definitely be off work and under the weather tomorrow and I might just take Friday off too, depending on how I feel. That, and how I look, will also determine whether or not I show up for the Saturday gig.
Normally when I am nervous/anxious like this I can't get to sleep, but I am feeling rather tired at the moment so I'd better go take advantage of that - might be all the sleep I get tonight!
